Guess Who?*Laurencia Siobhan Selwyn**

Nice To Meet youName: Laurencia Selwyn
Nicknames: It's Lauren. Or at least it better be.
Age: 17 (but just barely)
Year: 6
Gender: female
House: Ravenclaw
Blood Status: Pure[/
Era: HarryFace Claim: Isla Fisher Well Isn't this a surpriseFamily: Father: Javier Selwyn, age 38, Slytherin. Kearney O'Connor Selwyn, age 36, attended the Salem Academy
Personality: Lauren is a product of a tightly knit but ultimately unsatisfying family life. She tries to hold herself aloof from others due to her tendency to latch onto others for support. She is of course highly intelligent and thinks that it is her best trait, although she often wishes that she were even smarter so that she could set herself apart from the others even after she graduates. Her sneaky, dry, and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor is usually dotted with references to books that are older than anyone still alive (including good old Nicolas Flamel). She is very defensive and is always ready to argue. However, if you are someone she considers worth speaking to, she’ll stick up for you to the end (although you’ll still have to endure her teasing)and she is very sentimental. She is often torn between the need to fit in and the need to be different, even though she knows that it’s ridiculous to be worried about either. She carries at least one book with her everywhere to make certain that if no one around is worth talking to her (or if they are ignoring her, which is more likely) she can make herself look studious and busy as she ought to. To sum up, her personality is many layered and sometimes seems unfathomable, but she is capable of being pleasant to those who deserve it.
History: Although the Selwyns are pure-blooded and were once immensely wealthy, over time they have dwindled into a much less prestigious line. Javier Selwyn was the heir to his father (as his only sibling was a younger brother who was, unfortunately and unknown to most, a Squib) and inherited a decent amount of money, a small manor in Scotland, and two small estates in Spain and America. Upon a visit to look over his American estate, Javier was hosted by a family of Irish purebloods who had emigrated to America, the O’Connors. Although not wealthy, they were a large and well-respected family within the American wizarding society. The two eldest children of the family were female and had both graduated from the Salem Academy with decent grades and were expected to marry well. Javier, spotting a chance to ally the European pure lines with the Americans, requested a marriage contract between himself and one of the daughters. The eldest, Kearney, was chosen to be his bride and they were married in America. Instead of returning to Scotland, the couple took up residence in the Spanish Selwyn estate.
Soon after, Kearney found herself pregnant and was immensely excited. Although she had given the impression of a stuffy society girl while in America, her caring and protective nature was slowly and surely revealed to Javier (who secretly mused that, had she been at Hogwarts, she may have been a Hufflepuff). Towards the end of the pregnancy, Kearney began to have physical complications and the baby was delivered early with as much magical help as possible. The daughter was named Laurencia, for the Spanish ancestors whose naming style remains with the Selwyns, and her middle name was made Siobhan to honor Kearney’s late mother. The couple was told that they should not try for any more children, as even with magic, some things are just not meant to be.
Lauren grew up in the Spanish estate without much contact with children her age. She grew up interacting mostly with adults and was quickly catching up to them on a conversational and intellectual level. Her father, who felt useless if he was not working on something, took up a job in the Spanish ministry overseeing the architecture and construction of new magical buildings in several foreign countries, leaving Kearney and Lauren home alone. As Lauren got closer and closer to school age, her mother began to worry that being cut off from young people would affect her adversely, and without asking her husband, she relocated to the manor in Scotland. This turned out to be a fruitless effort, as Lauren showed little interest in any of the pure-blood children her age. She did, however, get along particularly well with a few who were quite a bit older than her, and her mother chalked up her daughter’s antisocial behavior to sophistication.
At school, Lauren is seen mostly associating with the purebloods within her own house and a few odd Slytherins. Although she is intellectually open-minded, her otherwise kind parents are in fact deeply prejudiced against those with Muggle blood, and it has become unwillingly ingrained into her behavior. This has never caused much of a problem as only a few people seem to be drawn in by Lauren’s seeming indifference to most people and those are easily deflected with a sharp bit of wit or a barrier made of ink and paper. The impression given is that she would rather be alone; this is the exact opposite of the truth, but she will never let you know.
I Never KnewLikes: dusty old books, people who know when to leave her alone
Dislikes: Muggleborns (although she wishes it weren’t true), waking up early
Loathes: the fact that her father is always off on one trip or another, that she is neither loved nor hated
Loves: winter, music, her mother, being an only child
Enjoys: doing extra credit work for classes even though she doesn’t need it, confusing people
Hobbies: doodling, daydreaming, learning about random topics that catch her fancy
Fears: that she will be alone forever or, worse, that she will be caught and tamed into a common girl
Secrets: She is singularly disinterested in any sort of struggle between good and evil, although she loves to debate it with others. She is also not particularly interested in girls or boys; either may catch her eye for a moment but soon fade away when a new thought flits across her mind.
Random Fact: She likes Muggle literature just as much as wizarding literature, but she has less opportunity to discuss it. Her favorite relative is her mother’s brother Galen who is an apothecary in America.
