When You Were YoungFamily: Alejandro Guzman, 54, Hufflepuff. Marisol Carasquillo, 38, Muggle.
Personality: Rey is the kind of girl who gets what she wants, when she wants it, which is usually now. Her sweet eyes and pretty smile can draw you in until you're too close to get out before the fall. Delayed gratification is not in her vocabulary. Outside of her life of conquest, though, Rey can be a very helpful friend to have. She's happy to get you that grade that you need, or a Hogsmeade date with the sixth year you've been eyeing. She has a strange but strong relationship with her mother, who she sees as somewhat of a role model. Besides breaking hearts, Mireya isn't a mean girl; she'd give the shirt off her back to help the underdog and has never been one to see the point in bullying, even though she could pull it off with her sheer physical presence. At 5'10, she's taller than very near all the girls in school and quite a few of the boys. Subtle trickery, however, is much more effective and time-efficient.
Rey doesn't understand the concept of happy. She knows that she feels excited when she's on the prowl, satisfied when she gets her way, angered when something gets in her path. She doesn't quite get what people are after in relationships, and doesn't particularly want to know.
History: The Carasquillos didn't have much in the world: a two-room house, a broken-down American jalopy, and 6 sons. It wasn't until Marisol came around that they thought they would ever escape from their squalor. Despite growing up in the rough-and-tumble world of dust and heat with her brothers, Marisol was a beauty queen, and she went on to win crown after crown through high school. The money was enough to buy the boys clothes, to fix the car, and more importantly, to give Marisol a good reputation. She worked her way into social circles where people never thought to ask if she had her own bedroom back home, or why didn't curl her hair like the other girls. She was a young, beautiful socialite in their eyes, and it didn't take long for Alejandro Guzman, nearly twice her age, to snatch her up. A rich business magnate and frequent traveler, Ale carted Marisol across the globe with him, and was pleased when she gave him a daughter, who he named Mireya, or, "miraculous."
To Ale's surprise, Marisol filed for divorce shortly after Rey was born, taking a good chunk of his money with her to London. She also unwillingly took their daughter with them as well, since it would have been strange, in those times, for a man to be raising his daughter when her mother was still alive and well. Marisol, now wealthy and single, went about life the way she had always wanted to: doing whatever she wanted whenever she wanted. She got nannies for Rey off and on, but that didn't shelter her from the many night when Mami came home with this man or that. Surprise surprise when things began to catch fire when Rey wanted attention; Ale had never revealed that he was a wizard.
Growing up mostly alone, Rey loved to imagine things and make up stories; above all, she loved to lie. When she started grade school, she pretended as if she spoke no English to rile the teachers up, although she had been brought up bilingual. She liked to send loads of lacy valentines to herself to put on top of the stack that she got for real, from little boys who had never seen a girl with such dark eyes and skin like the desert sand. She learned quickly how to make people smile or how to make them cry. She rarely failed to get what she wanted, and when her Hogwarts letter came, she got her way once again.
Schoolwork was easy but boring and Rey learned to slide by on average grades so she could occupy herself with more important things. She matured early and caught the eyes of plenty of boys in the upper years. She learned to treat them no different than the children she's manipulated in grade school; she got from them what she wanted and then left them behind, slightly dazed and not quite sure of what has occurred. In her fifth year she found it beneficial to add girls to her repertoire as well; it gave her a reputation that none could knock and honestly, girls were more fun to break than boys. They cried at the drop of a hat and bothered over things for months afterward.
