It isn't that he's not sharp or witty or anything. It's just that he is not exactly the most studious guy. He is not obsessed with his studies; in fact, he's not obsessed with much of anything. He is a dabbler, constantly researching and experimenting with new ideas and lifestyles. One day he'll be vegan, the next strictly a carnivore. Atheist, Christian, Hindu. He's constantly up for anything different.
The only thing that he is consistent with, up to this point, is his friends. He does not dabble in relationships, romantic or platonic. He sticks to what he knows--and that is very, very little.
Like his interests, his demeanor tends to change. He is withdrawn and guarded, but it is hidden behind a mask of outgoing frivolity.
History:
Drew's mother wore the pants around the Alaska household. Maurice was always tired, worn down, and almost invisible. It was from him that Andrew got his intelligence and his desire to learn about every possible lifestyle. Why was it that his father, a brilliant math major, settled for an office job and a hateful wife? Thousands of people in the world who were just like his father lived very, very differently. However, it was from his mother that he learned never to mess around when it came to girls and love.
She beat him as a child, and if he tried to strike back, he was beat even more. "Never hit a girl," his mother would snarl between every extra blow. Drew learned that it was best not to trust. His father never stepped in to help him, and he was the person that Drew trusted the most. He learned to suffer on his own, to keep others at arm's length, and to pretend everything was okay.
