Charms Classroom

I sat near the middle of the Charms room, listening to the teacher attentively as always. My fellow students' minds had drifted off into dreamland near the beginning of class, since it was right before lunch. I took notes as well since this was likely to come up with the N.E.W.Ts next year.

I sat next to Carlie who was quickly scribbling notes down. I rolled my eyes at her. She kept telling me to study for my Newts. But they were forever away. Nearly two years. What was the point of studying for them now. I might as well relax while I had the time.

After the teacher was done explaining the theory, usage, and wand movements for the particular spell we were learning today it was time to practice doing it. At the sound of chairs moving around to get far enough away from each other that they would not get hit with the birds we were supposed to be creating people started to come back to reality, most of them completely confused and asking their friends what we were doing. I moved back into a part of the room where there were only two other people. I removed my wand from my pocket and readied myself, repeating the steps to the spell in my mind.

The teacher told us to get going and I realised I didn't have a clue. As I hadn't been listening.

"Carlie?" I asked.

"Let me guess you want to know what we're doing?" She asked grinning at me.

"Yep." I replied grinning back.

Carlie quickly explained the spell to me and we moved to the back of the room to practice. Another boy moved to the back too.

I moved my wand in the correct motions and said the incantation. "Avis."

A small flock of 4 or 5 birds came from the tip of my wand and I was rather pleased with myself at the moment.

Now all I needed to do was work on getting the flock bigger.

Calie murmered "Avis" and a small flock of birds appeared out of her wand.

"Your turn Al." She said,

I smiled and took out my wand. "Avis." Nothing happened. I shurged and tried again. Well it wouldn't be much fun if you got it at the first try wouldn't it.

Calie laughed. "You need to concerntrat on the type of bird you want to produce." She smiled.

I tried my best not to eavesdrop on the two girls' conversation, but my curious side was winning over. Instead, I was forcing myself to concentrate on doing the spell correctly again. "Avis." I said for the second time.

This time at least 8 birds flew out. Well at least it was a little better, but there were so many noisy birds in the room it was getting hard to think.

I tried again and a solo bird was produced.

Calie smiled. "It's a start." She waved her wand and produced another flock.

"You can do it so easily." I complained trying again.

After a few more tries I stopped. It was getting too noisy in the room, seeing as the teacher never told us how to get rid of the birds once they were summoned. It was rather annoying and giving me a headache.

I sat in one of the abandoned chairs, and -since I had my bag with me at the moment- I pulled out a book. I flipped it open to the page I stopped on and started reading.

I rolled my eyes as some Ravenclaw dude sat down and pulled out a book as if he though he had mastered it.

"We have transfiguration next right?" I asked Calie.

"Yep, and I think we're doing human transforming like eyebrow colours and stuff."

"Fun." I muttered sarcasticly.

Calie grinned at me. "Sure you'll find it easy you don't even need your wand, but it'll be interesting for the rest of us."

Sighing to myself and closing my book I had to ask the question that had just popped in my head. It was a learning experience I told myself.

"How would changing the colors of things be easy for her?" I asked the girl that had made the comment.

I glanced at the snob who had put down his book.

"Im a metomorphis." I said even though the question was directed at Calie.

Calie smiled to herself and produced another flock of birds then made all the ones she had created disapear as the room was getting quite loud.

"Sorry, but I don't know what that is," I replied. "Would you mind explaining it just a little?"

Then I realized that it was rude of me to start asking questions before introducing myself to them.

"I'm Hikaru Usui by the way."

"Alida." I said as a greeting.

"Calie." Calie said.

"I can change my apperance at will." I said concertrating hard and making my hair a light blonde.

"That's an interesting ability. And useful too," I commented.

"Thank you for answering my questions. I appreciate it. Now I'll leave you two alone."

I opened my book back up.

I rolled my eyes. Idiot. I changed my hair back to brown. I liked it brown.

Calie smiled. "I think your hair would be cool a dark purple." She laughed.

I grinned at her and concerntrated on turning my hair dark purple.

"Girls I don't think chnaging you hair colour is what we are supposed to be doing." The charms teacher said.

"Sorry Professor." Calie said.

I just continued reading my book, passing the time until the next class until the teacher called for my attention.

"Mr.Usui, you should not be reading. You should be practicing."

"Sorry professor..." I muttered, begrudginly closing the book again.

I smirked when I saw Snob get in trouble for reading.

I got Calie to produce a mirror and looked at my purple hair.

"I like it." I said fingering my hair.

"Same." Calie said.

The bell rang and we gathered our stuff on our way to transfiguration.

I was frowning for the few remaining minutes of class.

Then the bell rang so I got up to go to my next class: Transfiguration.

Maybe I would get some studying in that class.
