Running to Stand Still

Lesley found that she had control over her body once more, with one glance behind her, she tore off out of the corridor. Hoping that Corey could keep Bianca distracted enough so she could round the corner, she pulled out her wand as she ran, ready to use it if push came to shove. Rounding the corner, she stopped, leaning back against the wall for a moment before she set off again. Knowing by now she was ridiculously late for class.

Bianca pulled her wand out to attack, and Corey stood completely still. He was scared, but he was not going to let HER see that. However, he was spared the trouble of defending himself when none other than Tom Riddle himself walked around the corner. He exchanged a few words with Bianca, and left. Bianca gave Corey a dirty look and said, "We'll continue this later," before walking off.

"Odd," Corey thought to himself. Why was Riddle protecting him?

Lesley got to her classroom, and stopped outside the door for a few moments, trying to catch her breath. She entered the room, the teacher glanced at her as she sat down, but said nothing. She supposed it was one of those times where her good grades helped her get away with things.

Corey wandered to class, knowing he could be as late as he wanted and get away with it. He walked into class ten minutes late and sat down next to Lesley, knowing that he was later than normal, and that the teacher might find it odd. However, as usual, the teacher said nothing. He could get away with anything he wanted to.

"How are you doing?" Corey asked Lesley quietly.

Lesley turned when Corey sat down next to her, and for once she wasn't annoyed at the fact. She shrugged at him, still a little shaky. "Been better," She said quietly under her breath as she teacher finished explaining what they were going to do that way, and getting one of the students in the front row to pass out the equipment. "Thanks by the way," She said with a small smile.

Corey wanted to give Lesley a hug. She looked in bad shape. "Don't worry about it. She had no reason to hurt you. It made me angry, and someone had to stop it. You're safe now, though. I'm here."

"It's ridiculous," She grumbled. "Blood status has nothing to do with anything. It doesn't make you any more or less worthy of magic." She sighed, running a hand through her hair.

Cor nodded. "Exactly. They think they're doing a good thing, but they're complete and utter idiots. All they're doing is killing off magic. What good does that do anyone?"

"They'd have muggle blood in their family trees somewhere," Lesley said pulling out her wand. "Whether they admit to it or not. If they only marry wizarding families they'll bread themselves into extinction."

Cor nodded. "Especially if they keep marrying their cousins and stuff. That causes diseases, I've been told, because there is not much genetic differentiation or something. Idiots, the lot of them."

Lesley nodded. "Yeah..." She said, turning her attention to the bird on her desk. (First animal I thought of XD) She pointed her wand at it, murmuring the incantation, nothing happened for a few seconds before it shifted, though not into what Lesley was hoping for. She'd been aiming for a decorated jewelery box. Instead got half bird, half box. "Damn," She muttered attempting to reverse it. Frowning when it didn't work. Pegging it on still being somewhat shaken she tried again.

Corey was worried about Lesley. She seemed pretty shaken. He decided if she had much more trouble with her magic because she was so scared she was shaking, he would claim she was ill and help her to the hospital wing. She looked pale--so pale it was unhealthy.

"Peice of crap," She muttered sourly frowning at the half bird half box. With more force then was needed she flicked her wand at it, causing the hole thing to blow up into a ball of smoke. "Well," She said wrinkling her nose and wafting the smoke away with her hand. "That wasn't meant to happen."

"Lesley, are you sure you're okay? I think... do you need to go to the hospital wing?"

"What?" Lesley said glancing at him. "Yeah I'm fine." She frowned at the burnt box, still pointing her wand at it. Though not achieving in changing it when she prodded it again with her wand. She sighed, leaning back in her chair.

"Professor," Corey said, as innocently and convincingly as possible. "Lesley looks ill. I think she should go to the hospital wing. Should I take her?"

The Professor turned and glanced at Lesley, before nodded. "Yes you may," He said. "I'm fine," Lesley told him irritably as she stood up, grabbing her bag as she did so.

Cor raised his eyebrow. "You're shaking so hard you can't even do magic. That is not my opinion of fine, really."

"It'll pass," Lesley said putting her wand into her robes, as they exited the classroom.

Cor laughed. "Don't worry. I didn't actually plan to make you go to the hospital wing. I just figured you would want to get out of there and have some time to calm down somewhere quiet."

Lesley glanced at him. "Thanks," She said quietly, running a hand through her hair.

Cor shrugged. "No problem. It was unfair and bothering me that she did that to you, and if it were me, I would need the time to myself. Do you want me to leave, or...?"

Lesley leaned against a wall, running her fingers through her hair again. She shrugged at Corey with a sigh, still shaking somewhat.

Cor was concerned, because Les seemed to be in bad shape. "If you need me to stay, though, I can do that, too." He wanted to give her a hug.
