Moony and Padfoot's first all-alone rp

Court Watson felt a smirk threatening to tip up the left side of his face as he watched the little fifth-year girl squirm. It was always more fun to pick on the ones who were never in trouble, since they seemed to panic so much more. There weren’t many other trouble-makers to blame it on anyway, as all of his mates were long gone to God knows where. Mrs. Matcarey’s lips made a thin line across her face as she just sat and stared at him blankly, as if she didn’t know if it was worth it to even give a lecture. Finally, though, she opened her mouth.

“Robert,” she began, and Court immediately rolled his eyes, wondering exactly how many years it would take for her to find out no one called him that, not even his uppity parents who could probably care less what his name was anymore. “I just don’t know what to do with you anymore. I honestly told myself this holiday that I hoped you’d have finally dropped. Sometimes I think the only reason you remain here at Hogwarts is to make trouble.”

“Mrs. Matcarey,” Court said smoothly, doing his best to drop the accent that he always picked up on the streets over holidays, “it was a dungbomb. Why would I play with one of those? I’m not a brat anymore.”

“Mr. Watson, your records show -,”

“My records show that I don’t let anyone pull one over on me. Talk shit, get hit, you know?” He mimed punching someone in the face with his fist and palm, imagining some of the little punks that came looking for a fight.

Court saw the tip of the headmistress’s tongue flick up to say, “Language,” but she simply stopped and sighed. He’d been talking like a street rat for 7 years and it wasn’t going to away any time soon, and she knew it. “So, what you’re saying is that this young lady, with no prior record, set off a dungbomb in the middle of the Great Hall?”

“Yep. Definitely her. Would I lie about my own housemate? I don’t want points taken more than any other Gryffindor. If I had wanted to pawn it off on some little nit, I’d have picked a Slytherin.” He’d prepared that speech during Defense before copying the majority of his essay from the Hufflepuff next to him, who hadn’t even made a face when he realized he was being nicked from.

Mrs. Matcarey made a face for a minute and Court guessed that she was thinking. Finally, she glanced over at the kid and frowned at her. “I would have expected better from you, Ms. Crest. I’ve called your sister up to talk with us about this. She should be here any minute.”

Lynna Crest has finally succeeded in dragging her best friend and, as far as she and Kathryn were concerned, her non-biological brother, Lucas, outside to enjoy some time in the snow that was on the school's grounds. She'd been trying to get him outside for ages, but Luke had kept insisting that he would only end up catching a cold, as would Lynn. After much whining from Lynn though, he'd gone to his dorm, bundled up and gone with her outside, after commenting that Lynna should at least put on more than a sweater and a light jacket herself. She didn't care.

They had left Ravenclaw tower and made their way outside, much like many of the other students had. The grounds were covered in tracks from other people. Luke was content with just walking around, since he didn't like snow much, but Lynna found that boring. When he wasn't looking at one point, she scooped some snow up into her gloved hand and flung it at him.

"Lynn," Luke complained, shaking the snow from his hair, "I told you I didn't want to get wet from the snow."

She laughed at him. "It's not fun that way," she explained.

Luke merely scowled at her from behind where his scarf was pulled over his face. Lynna sighed. "Fine, Lucas," she said, using his full first name, "I won't throw anymore snow at you…Today."

Luke shrugged, guessing that was the best he would get out of her.

They walked for a while longer, before another student walked over to them and told Lynna that the headmistresses wanted to see her in her office. With a heavy sigh, Lynna told Luke she'd talk to him later and headed back to the castle, wondering what the headmistress wanted. The student hadn't said.

After stepping through the castle's doors, Lynna realized just how cold it had been outside, the heat inside washing over her. It hadn't bothered her then, but now Lynn shivered a little, wishing she had grabbed her thicker jacket, or at least her scarf, since the heat on her cold face wasn't entirely pleasant. She made her way through the castle to the headmistress's office, knocking on the door when she got there.

"Come in," came the call from inside.

Lynna opened the door to find her sister in the office as well, looking as though she were in a right sour mood. She also noticed a boy, in her year she thought, but she didn't know his name, never actually having bothered to find out. Finally, she looked at headmistress. "Ma'am," she said, being polite, "you wanted to see me? I'm assuming it's got something to do with Kathryn?"

The headmistress nodded at her. "Yes, Ms. Crest," she replied. "Mr. Watson here has accused her of setting off a dungbomb in the Great Hall."

Lynna made a face. "Kat and a dungbomb? That has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard." She shook her head at the thought.

Court frowned as the brat’s sister walked in. He knew he’d seen her at some point or another, probably even joked about her with some of his mates, but her name wasn’t anything special enough to remember. He felt unease bubble up in him as she went against his story. “You calling me a liar?” he asked aggressively, turning to face her so that she could see his face, set hard into a look of anger. “Your little twat of a sister set off a dungbomb at her own house table. Probably some little bet or dare from her girlfriends. Waste of time if you ask me.”

Mrs. Matcarey gave him a warning look and looked back and forth between the two sisters. “Well, of course you would say that, Ms. Crest...you wouldn’t attempt to incriminate your sister. I didn’t call you here to question the validity of Mr. Watson’s story. I called you here to determine why your sister would do such a thing to her own classmates when she’s shown no prior cause to.” The glint in her eye made Court nervous. He knew she wasn’t really convinced that the kid had done it.

Lynna felt her eyes narrowing at the boy as he spoke to her in a relatively aggressive tone. "Yes, I'm calling you a liar, because you are one," she stated calmly, but with covered anger at him insulting her sister. "Do you have a problem with that?"

Then, without waiting for him to reply to her question, she turned to Mrs. Matcarey. "I'm going to question his story because Kat wouldn't do that. There is no why would she in this situation. Kathryn hasn't done anything like this prior. You said so yourself. She wouldn't do it now. And if you don't want to take my word for it because I'm her sister then ask Luke."

Lynn looked over at her sister, who was frowning in such a way that said she hadn't done a thing and that she couldn't understand why she was being accused as such. But Kathryn stayed quiet, not wanting to say something that would get her in trouble, or well, more trouble if Mrs. Matcarey didn't believe Lynna.

Watching a bird stand up to him made Court want to pull a childish move like sticking his tongue out at her. He generally didn’t hit girls, but there was only so much that he would take from someone. Being called a liar tended to cross the line, even if he was putting on a fib. The real issue was that she was pushing her luck by going against him. Most kids that he pawned stuff off on didn’t argue and simply accepted their punishment, knowing that he probably wouldn’t use them again, just to be believable. Yet here was this girl, who wasn’t even the one getting in trouble, going against his word.

“I’m sure Mr. Bendon would have the same things to say that you do, Ms. Crest. The staff is not blind to the fact that students may be brothers and sisters without sharing any blood relation. In this situation, I’d say that both sides of the story here are unreliable. I think I have no choice but to punish both of you, and we’ll see where things will go from there. Two weeks detention with the caretaker, Mr. Watson and Ms. Crest.” She nodded as if to dismiss them and Court could feel all of his muscles clenching in frustration. He hadn’t been caught many times this year, and the anger over being shoved into detention was as fresh as the first time six long years ago. Shaking his head, he stormed past both sisters and out the headmistress’s door onto the staircase. Slamming his fist against the wall, he wondered where this plan had gone wrong.

"That's entirely unfair!" Kathryn protested, speaking for the first time since she'd entered the office. Lynna just put a hand on her shoulder, telling her silently to just deal with it and to not make things worse. Kathryn had frowned but quieted down. She left the office, and with a farewell to Mrs. Matcarey, Lynna followed her.

As the two sisters walked down the stairs, Lynn noticed the boy from the office. Kathryn just walked by him, but Lynn wasn't just going to let it go. She stopped a step or two above where he was standing and cleared her throat to get his attention. "Just who the hell do you think you are?" she asked, eyes narrowed. "Honestly, only an idiot would mess with my sister as long as I'm around. Everyone knows I look out for her. Trying to pin the blame on her for something you did was a really stupid move." Then she went on her descent down the stairs.

For a split second, Court literally saw red as the girl turned and traipsed off down the steps as if she had no idea who she'd crossed. The blood in his veins felt as if it were trying to burn through him as her words rang back in his ears over and over. If there was one thing he'd never been able to bear, it was people telling him he was stupid. He'd heard enough of it from his parents and his brother for years, and now he felt like running someone into the ground, namely the little bird who thought she could talk down to him like that. Didn't she know where he'd been, what he'd done? He slammed his fist into the wall again, but somehow it just wasn't satisying. He knew it would only cause more problems if he went after her, and it wasn't like him to hit a girl, even if she was an annoying bint. He searched his brain for someone to go and lay out flat, just to run off all the extra steam.

A flash of revelation shot through his mind and he took the rest of the steps two or three at a time, headed downstairs so the he could get outside. He didn't know what time it was, but there was a bunch of slack-jawed, sneering Slytherins that hung around in a certain place near the castle, in a neat little corner out of the view of any professors or prefects who might like to meddle in their affairs. His aggravated pace got him there in half the time it would usually take, and he could see the little twerps now. Only one of them was properly his age, but they all though they were bad despite having been brought up in pretty little houses in the countryside.

"Oy, pansies!" he yelled, throwing a hand up to announce his presence. "I turned on my asshole magnet and look whre it brought me!" He quickly brought his fists up in case someone was quicker than he anticipated.

"Go away, street rat," muttered their leader, a big ginger git who always looked out of place. "No one's looking for a fight here," he said as he stepped forward.

"Yeah, well you're wrong about that, cause I damn sure am," Court replied, throwing a left hook and making contact with the side of the brat's face and pulling his guard up for a counterstrike.

At the bottom of the stairs, Lynn found Kathryn waiting for her. "What took you so long?" the younger asked.

"Nothing," Lynna replied. "Want to go find Luke and drag him outside? There's a ton of snow on the ground still."

Kathryn nodded at her sister and the two set off through the castle, going to the Ravenclaw's tower first, since Lynna had the theory that Luke would be inside there. Indeed, he was, and after some pleading from both sisters he agreed to go back outside again. Saying she'd be right back, Kathryn went to go get her jacket from the Gryffindor dorms. With a grin on her face, Lynna went to get her heavier jacket and her scarf from her trunk before they went back out. She had learned from the first time that going out into the cold with little protection against it and then coming back inside wasn't pleasant.

Lynn and Luke met back up with Kathryn and the group set out toward the castle's doors, chattering lightly as they did so. Once they were outside Lynna proposed that they have a snowball fight.

"No way," Luke said. "I'd rather not get pummeled in the face with snow by you two. You always gang up on me."

"We do not!" the sisters protested at the same time, but Lynna continued on. "But fine, you can sit and watch us. As boring as that would be."

A fist connected with Court's stomach and all his air whooshed from his chest. He doubled over momentarily and used the opportunity to pull is opponent's legs out from under him. Before he even managed to catch his breath, there was a girl clawing at his face and he found himself caught off-guard. He'd never noticed that one of these knockabous was a girl. Normally, that would give him a problem, but as he felt her fingernails dig into the skin of his forehead, he lost any apprehension he might have had and fastened his left hand in her shirt, using it as leverage to swing a punch to her face. She gave an ear-piercing shriek that only enraged him further and took another shot at her side, right in the kidney. She fell on the recovering ginger boy who fell to the ground again, cursing.

"Is that all?" Court asked, ignoring the trickle of blood leaking into his eye from the cut there. "Come on, cowards!" The other two Slytherins, leaning against the wall as if they could simply soak through it into safety, shook their heads quickly. "Fine. I thought I'd at least get a real fight out of you slippery snakes, but it looks like you're no better than any of the other wimps around here." He gave their leader a swift kick to the ribs and spit at the girl beside him, who was holding her side. Making his retreat, his anger had settled a bit, but there was no way he was ready to go inside yet. His blood left a small dotted trail behnd him as he headed towards the front of the school.

In the end, Luke did end up sitting out of the snowball fight. But, that doesn't mean he didn't still get hit with random snowballs, badly aimed or not so badly aimed. So, now, much to his displeasure, Luke was wet from melted snow. Lynna and Kathryn were much worse however, having just gone crazy throwing snow at each other. Most times, the snow wasn't even balled together and was just flung.

After a little while, Kathryn fell back in the snow, breathing hard and sinking down a couple of inches in it. "I'm exhausted," she panted out.

Lynna was breathing heavy too from the exertion of the snow throwing, but she hadn't quite fallen over like her sister. Instead, her hands were rested on her knees. "Shall we call it a draw?" she suggested.

Kathryn nodded at her, sitting up and shaking the snow from her hair.

"Now can we go back inside?" Luke asked, speaking up from the bare tree he'd settled down under. "We're all going to get sick being outside for so long."

The two tired girls nodded and the group of three set off back for the castle.

Court attempted to wipe th blood out of his eyes, but he was pretty sure he'd done nothing but spread it around on his forehead and cheeks. Then again, that was probably a good thing as you didn't generally see anyone messing with bloodied up, angry-looking people. He had a force in his step as he stomped toward the castle doors, wondering how many little first-years he could scare on his way to the common room. As he neared the castle, he saw a small lump of people together and quickly recognized the cause of his anger. Feeling confrontational, he sped up and pushed through the middle of them without turning to make an apology, hoping to provoke a response.

The three walked to the castle, chatting away when suddenly someone pushed through them. They all looked at the person who'd done it and Lynn felt her eyes narrow. It was that stupid boy from before in the headmistress's office. "Oi!" she cried, as Kathryn helped Luke wipe snow off himself from when he stumbled into the snow. "What the hell do you think you're doing!"

Court slowly turned and smiled wickedly, feeling a drop blood settle on his bottom lip before dribbling down his chin. "I'm going back iinside like the good little boy I am," he replied, trying not to laugh at the hilarity of this girl. It was if she thought she was intimidating or something, which was pretty much the last thing any girl could be. "Now, if you don't mind I'd like to continue doing it."

Lynna scowled at him. "Good little boy? Like that's believable." She snorted at him. "It's possibly the least believable nonsense you've spouted in the short time I've had the displeasure of being in your presence. If you were a good boy, then there wouldn't be blood running down your face right now, because good boys keep themselves out of trouble."

Court simply continued smiling pleasantly. "I suppose your sister isn't as much of a good little girl as you think that she is then, since she's got herself two weeks of detention coming. Besides, how do you know I wasn't an innocent victim?" He was having fun playing this little game with her. For once, he was able to keep up with the banter between them, something he often had trouble with.

"Those two weeks are your fault and doing you incorrigible pest," Lynna returned. "If you honestly think that I believe for one second that Kathryn did that after 5 years being here and not once landing herself detention, you have something wrong in that noggin of yours." Her scowl had since turned into a frown. "And, please, do try not to make me laugh. Nothing about you says victim."

Court felt the rage boil up again as she once again questioned his intelligence, but pushed it aside. "So you admit that she just never landed herself detention, not that she never deserved it?" He gave his best innocent pout and pointed to the cut on his forehead. "I nearly got scratched to death by a girl her size. They're no peacefullittle doves, no matter what any of them say."

"Why are you so persistent on turning me against my sister?" Lynn asked. "Firstly, it's the most ridiculous notion ever, and second, it's only bound to fail. I honestly don't care that you got scratched by someone. You probably provoked her, since you seem to enjoy doing so to people." She was getting very annoyed with this boy, and if she were one for physical violence, she may have hit him in her annoyance.

With a shrug, Court found that he was more amused at this point than angry. It seemed like this girl was just one of those people who never gave up. Normally he'd just beat them into the ground, but as that wasn't an option, he might as well try to let it go, although he doubted that working too well. "I'm not trying to turn you against her. Even serial killers have their confidants. I'm just trying to show you that the idea of her making a little trouble isn't as stupid as you thought it was."

Lynna made an odd little huff noise and frowned at the boy. "Fine, I'll admit that you've managed to make a valid point, but if you ever mess with her again and get her into trouble for something she hasn't done -and I will know if it was you- then..." She trailed off, trying to find a way to word what she wanted to say. "Then things are going to turn unpleasant for you."

Court almost felt a real laugh escape him at the almost-threat the girl issued. "Whatever you say, miss priss. You and your happy little family can get back to what you were doing now." He turned and took a few steps before he remembered what he had forgotten to ask. "By the way....it'd be nice if I at least knew the name of the girl who might be terrorizing me in the future."

"You don't need to know my name for me to terrorize you in the future. It's not exactly necessary, now is it?" Lynna asked. "And besides, you already should know my last name. That should be enough."

Slightly hurt, Court shrugged his shoulders. "Fine then, Crest. I only meant to put your name out on the watch list with the little rich brats that like to run my errands, but I guess they'll be after both of you now." He was lying through his teeth, of course, but it never hurt to keep someone on their toes. "I'd peek around corners if I were you. They may be nothing but rich mama's boys but some of them have got a pretty hard right, and I'd for it to mess up your pretty face."

Lynna sighed. "If you really wanted to know my first name you should just say. No need to go around making up stories like that one," she said. "And before you go and try to either say it's not a lie or something like that, I'll just tell you. You honestly don't seem like you would have a bunch of little minions running around hitting people."

"You really don't know as much about me as you seem to think you do," Court said, shaking his head and wondering how she could so easily call him out on that lie. It'd been working for years. "But, fine. Humor me. My name's Court, what's your?"
