Moony and Padfoot's first all-alone rp

"It would seem I know something, as you didn't try to convince me that what you said wasn't a lie after I said it was," Lynn said, tilting her head slightly out of habit. "But fine, since you've asked properly this time, my name is Lynna."

"I knew a stubborn little thing like you wouldn't believe a thing I said, even if I was trying to convince you that the grass was green." He could sense that the conversation was coming to an end, as the her sister and the boy with them looked mildly impatient. "I used to run with a girl name Lynna when I spent last summer in Leeds. Nothing like you, though. She was actually nice." He turned on his heel and finally went on towards the castle doors, wondering what he was going to do now. He never had much to do when there weren't classes, and that meant that he spent all of his time getting into trouble. It was too soon for that right now, though, and that meant a boring afternoon.

Lynn shrugged after his back was turned and looked back at Kat and Luke, who looked annoyed for being made to stand in the cold so long. "You two could have gone back to the castle without me you know," she stated. Then she reached down and scooped up some snow, balling it together. Aiming the now formed snowball, she tossed it at the back of Court's head.

Feeling a cold wetness slam into the back of his head, Court shivered violently and turned. "Wow...." he muttered, staring at Lynna. He considered chucking one back at her, but it just wasn't the same without the element of surprise. "Nice shot," he complimented instead, and continued on his way into the castle. He figured he would go find the Come and Go room and practice his dodging. There was no way that Slytherin should have gotten a punch in on him.

Lynna laughed a little bit as Kathryn and Luke merely shook their heads at her. The group of three started toward the castle again and finally made their way inside, much to Luke's happiness. He complained that he was tired of being wet, then excused himself from the group to go dry off. Both girls rolled their eyes at him.

Saturday afternoon found Court wandering the corridor on the fourth floor, fifteen minutes late for his first detention with Professor Clayworth. He'd spent ten minutes trying to find some twerp to go for him, since he'd never had Professor Clayworth and he wouldn't recognize him. Finally, though, he knew he would just get more weeks piled on if he didn't go, so he pushed himself into the classroom, where the professor and his detention-mate were already seated. "I'm here. What now?" he spat, leaning against the closed door behind him and looking expectantly at the Arithmancy teacher.

Kathryn was in a sour mood as she set out to go to the detention she'd been given although she'd done nothing wrong. With a mutter under her breath, she had set out for where the detention was to be held. Once in the classroom, on time, she vaguely wondered where the boy who was meant to have detention too was. He was late, obviously, as she had been right on time. She sighed to herself and frowned, just as the door to the room opened and revealed the boy.

Professor Clayworth adjusted his glasses on his short snub nose and glanced disinterestedly at Court. "I have papers to grade, so I can't be expected to watch the two of you. You'll be writing lines today, 150 of them. They will read, I will stop getting caught so that I will not have detention. When you are finished you may go." The man smiled wryly, then gathered his papers and walked through a small door behind his room which was presumably his office. Court stared blankly at the roll of parchment and Self-Inking Quill sitting at an empty desk, then sat down with a sigh. As far as detentions went, lines were the good stuff. At least he wasn't scrubbing toilets or tutoring first-years. He set to work silently, occasionally glancing over at the girl that he'd landed here, wondering how she was dealing with her first detention.

Kat scowled at the page before her, but nonetheless complied with what she was meant to be doing. May as well get all this rubbish over and done with, so she wouldn't get more added to it later for not doing it in the first place. She worked quietly, making her way through the task quickly, since she was concentrated on it. She wanted this experience to be over as soon as she possibly could. Once, she took a small break to flex her hand and noticed the boy, Court she recalled from when he'd told Lynn, glancing over. "What?" she said, breaking the silence that had been in the room.

Upon being caught, Court found himself off-guard, but didn't turn away. "Nothing," he answered, letting his hand continue across the page although he knew it wouldn't make a very straight line. "Just wondering why you're not like your sister. She's got a lot more....what's that word for when girls are annoying? Spunk."

Kathryn looked at the boy for a moment, wondering if she wanted to respond to him or not. "Sometimes I think the Sorting Hat got our houses mixed up," she said lightly. "And she's not actually annoying. She just plays the role of protective older sister."

Court looked down at the jagged scrawl he'd made across the paper and shrugged, starting on the next line far enough down that it wouldn't upwards into the one above it. "Well, then, the role is annoying. I swear, it's like she's been out running for the streets. Except, you know, without the hitting people. And the drinking. And....yeah, never mind that part. Anyway, she's a wee bit daft if you ask me."

Kathryn raised an eyebrow. "Daft? She's in Ravenclaw. Last I checked that house had anything but daft people. Although, you might be a bit since you've gone and set her off, by doing this." She motioned around with her hand, to symbolize the detention thing. Then she shrugged, going back to writing her lines, since she'd stopped while talking.

"You know," Court said, having not really followed most of what the girl said, "I didn't get you in here on purpose. You were just....you know, there. And I thought, hey, why not this one, haven't pawned it off on her yet. So, no hard feelings, eh? I mean, I'm sorry and all that." The words sounded odd coming out of his mouth, but he just pretended he was lying and things worked out okay in his brain.

Kathryn frowned. "You couldn't have just picked someone in your year? Why pick on someone younger than you? And a girl at that! And don't say you weren't picking on anyone. Getting me in trouble is something that I think would fall under that category. I had hoped to get through all seven years without a detention or anything of the sort, and you've ruined that."

Court let him sulk for a moment. His first apology, ever, beyond, "Sorry, mate, didn't mean to bag your bird," and it had failed miserably. "I've already pawned off too much on my year-mates, Matcarey'd never believe it was any of them anymore. You looked like a good kid, and they're always the best ones. Besides, detention is like a rite of passage. Can't believe you made it this far without one. What about your sister?" he asked, realizing this was the second question he'd asked about Lynna. He shrugged at no one and carried on with his lines. He'd managed to finish about six. He was tempted to try to use the Copying spell that Slice used to do, when he was still at school, but he was piss-poor at charms and never would have managed it.

Kathryn frowned for a moment, wondering on the question of her sister. "I can't recall that she has unless it was in her first two years before I got here. Mum and Dad are kind of scary when they get angry so we do our best to stay out of trouble, lest we get yelled at," she said. Then she looked down at her page, having stopped at about ten into the lines to talk.

Court scoffed and chicken-scratched his way through another few lines, hoping they were just legible enough to pass. He didn't want to have to rewrite any. "At least your parents pay attention to you. I've been running the streets since I can remember, and they've probably never looked at me twice. The only time they even talked to me more than saying, 'Move," was when I got my letter for here." He chewed his lip a bit and let a drop of ink fall as a period to the last line he'd written.

Kathryn stopped writing again and looked at the older boy. "Well," she said, somewhat quieter than she'd been before when they'd been talking, since it seemed more appropriate, "they can't be very good parents then." Then she fell silent again, writing some more, hoping to finish soon.

Court frowned. "I dunno, they do pretty alright with my brother and sisters. Of course they're all perfect little angels," he said, rolling his eyes and scribbling as quickly as he could. The lines were easier to write now that he was in the hang of it. "Hey, maybe you'll be in the same boat as me now....the black sheep of the family." He smiled broadly at the thought; he would've seen her sister in the role more easily, but it was funny to ease her any way. The concept of being a 'good kid' still confused him and he didn't really understand the point.

Kathryn frowned at Court. "Well, parents shouldn't show favoritism when it comes to their children. It's wrong," she said, softly as she felt the conversation required softer spoken words. Then she sighed and looked down at her lines again, writing. She really did want to finish and this talking wasn't helping any.

Court gave a laugh full of scorn as the girl across from him softened her voice as if she were sorry for him. She was young; she just hadn't learned yet. She would. Sometimes Court was actually grateful for the way he'd grown up; at least he hadn't had to learn that his whole childhood had been a lie. Scribbling quickly now and not really worried about being able to read what got put down on the paper, Court looked over at the girl. "You mean to tell me your parents don't like you our your sister more?" he asked, not really curious but keeping the talk up. He wasn't sure what he looking to find out with all of these questions.

Kathryn frowned and looked up from her page for what seemed like the millionth time that day. "I never said that," she said, voice nearly sounding sharp in her ears. "I just said that it was wrong for parents to do." Then she turned her eyes back to her page, writing, and completely intent on ignoring any further attempts at conversation.

"Oh-ho-ho, what do we have here?" Court asked, smirking. "Seems like I've pinched a nerve. So is it you or your sister? Guessing it's her, or you wouldn't be so sensitive about it. So what's so great about her? What makes her daughter dearest?"

Kathryn, while her hand tightened around her quill a little, didn't respond or look up. Instead she just frowned at the page in front of her, writing. Then after a moment, she spoke without looking up. "Why wouldn't she be their favorite? She's older, she's smarter, she got loads more OWLs than I'm probably going to get." Kathryn stopped and shrugged. "Plus, she's the 'picture perfect' older sister, always looking after me, even when I don't need it. And now this..."
