Life Has Just Begun But Now I've Gone And Thrown It All Away

"I don't know," Lucy said with a frown and a shrug.

"Helpful," Lyall muttered, bitterly.

"Sorry."

Lyall looked down at the ground for a moment, feeling sort of at a loss for what to do. Then she looked up again. "Lucy, come with me," she said suddenly. "If he's going to make me be on his side, then come with me so I'm not alone."

"What?" Lucy said looking at her. "Your crazy."

"Luce, please," Lyall whispered.

"But-" Lucy said. "I-, but. No."

Lyall bit her lip. "I see," she muttered. "Well, thanks for being an awesome friend." And she meant that in the most sarcastic sense of the words possible.

"You're asking me to join him," Lucy said. "That's not just asking me to help you out with something or get into a det cause you have one."

"So, you would rather I go on my own then?" Lyall asked. "You know that the students that go don't come back here. That's like abandoning me or something, Luce."

"Your asking me to risk my life!" Lucy retorted. "That yourself isn't exactly being a freind."

"I'm asking you to risk it with mine, because I don't just want to leave you behind here, probably to never see you again. You're the only friend I've made here. I'm sorry for not wanting to let that go."

"What if I don't want to risk mine?!"

"I already said I'm sorry, so bugger off!" Lyall snapped. "And you wanna know something, this is partially your fault. You should have woken me up like the other times. So, if anything, you owe me."

"I owe you nothing! You took for granted that I would wake you up, it's not my fault you fell asleep." Lucy snapped.

"I took nothing for granted, except maybe your friendship, which it seems doesn't exist!"

"If it didn't exist you wouldn't be here right now," Lucy retorted angrily. "You probably would have fallen asleep some other time or your secret would have been outed. Don't shout at me that I'm not doing the job of a freind. But there are some lengths to which I would not go."

Lyall bit back another retort, instead saying, "You wouldn't have really told, would you?"

"I dunno," Luce said with a shrug.

Lyall's shoulders slumped. "Lucy...." she said, suddenly feeling as though maybe they weren't friends at all, and had never really been.

"Look Ly, you know me. I say thing I don't mean when I get worked up. But you're trying to push me into doing something I don't want to do."

"Well, I don't want to have to do it either, but I have no choice. And, I'm scared of what's going to happen, and I just want a friend there."

"I-" Luce said. "Maybe."

"Maybe?"

"Yeah maybe."
