Nix and Vinde

Nix made a face at the homework as she sprawled it across one table and then frowned at it. "Snape's first?" she asked. "Cause his will take the longest out of all of them." Nix hated Snape sometimes, he always gave them impossibley hard homework at least they had a few days to do it and it wasn't just due the next day like he'd done once.

Vinde shrugged. "I was actually thinking getting History of Magic out of the way first, since it's bound to be the most boring out of it all," she said. "Save the funner ones for last...." She smiled at the sarcastic thought of an essay being fun.

"Whatever," Nix shrugged and piled that lot of homework on top of the lot she'd already shoved onto the table. She took one look at it all and made a face. "Well let's get started." The two girls worked on their homework for a while but after a bit they just gave up and resorted to playing exploding snap.

"The amount of homework on the first day is just ridiculous," Vinde commented as she did something in the game. "Don't they get that our brains are still stuck in summer and aren't ready for that much stuff?" She sighed.

"Nup they don't"

(Yeah it fails but it gives you something to work on...)

Vinde sighed and rested her head on her hand. "This is ridiculous. Stupid OWLs and all that. Do we really need to be tested to decide just what we're allowed to study to get jobs after school? I mean really, what if you wanted to be something but are rubbish at exams and fail one of the courses needed to get that job? Then you're not going to get it, and you'll be unhappy for the rest of your life. It's stupid." She sighed again and glared over at the fireplace in the common room.

"Well go tell Dumbledore that," Nix said. "But yeah I agree."

(isn't it fail that I wrote 5k on my Nano today and can only write a sentance of post? >.<)

"Dumbledore is ridiculous..." Vinde muttered, crossing her arms. "Many many things are ridiculous. Someone should do something about them, but eh I can't be bothered trying to convince people things. And besides, I'm not rubbish at exams, so I have no worries." She smiled.

"And so that was an entially pointless rant," Nix pointed out but smiled and scribbled some answer to the question on the peice of parchment.

Vinde shrugged. "Not really," she said. "I'm showing concern for the people who are rubbish at exams, but if I'm gaining nothing out of my hard work myself then I don't see the point in doing anything about it myself." She shrugged again.

Nix shrugged having zoned out halfway through what Vinde was saying, the two girls continued playing exploding snap and by dinner they were drawing three each. After dinner the girls managed to get some more homework done but gave up quite early and went up to the dorm.

The next few months passed by and school got no easier. If anything it got harder and the homework load seemed to increase daily, although the two girls had stopped procrastinating on it after their first all-nighter to get soemthing done for class the next day. It was breakfast one morning, and Vinde was exhausted from everything. Even Christmas break hadn't been enough to get over all the stress from the year. She laid her head down on the table and said, "I'm tired of this. Can we have like a three month break soon? Like before summer."

"That would be nice," Nix said tiredly. "Homework is a pain, I don't like exams and Umbridge needs to build and bridge and jump off it."

"Hm, yeah," Vinde agreed. "Can the bridge be on fire? That would be even more amusing." She lifted her head off the table, looking at Nix, waiting for her answer, although that bridge would be on fire regardless.

Nix snickered and opened her mouth to say something as Hermione walked over to where they were sitting. "Vinde," She said holding out the days paper. "There's something you should read," She passed Vinde the paper and then walked back over to where she, ron and Harry were sitting.

Vinde took the paper, giving Hermione a confused look, before looking down at it. The article title caught her attention almost immediately.



"This is not good..." she muttered once she was done reading.

Nix read the article over Vinde's shoulder and frowned. "Definetly not good." She said.

Vinde ran her hand through her hair for a moment after having laid the newspaper down on the table. "I should write to Aunt Andromeda."

Nix nodded and her and pushed away her plate of food no longer really hungry on the news of the breakout, she wondered how Vinde was as her mum had just broken out from Askaban which really couldn't be a good thing.

"I'll see you in class," Vinde said, getting up from the table. She walked from the Great Hall and then started up the stairs to the owlery. She could just write the letter there since she had parchment and quills and ink with her in her bag. Once she got there, Vinde used a windowsill as a hard surface and scribbled out a letter to her aunt. Then she called Styx to take the letter to her aunt.

Nix nodded and went off to whatevre clas she had first thing that day still wondering how Vinde was.

Vinde walked into class late, having taken longer in the owlery than she had meant to.

Nix yawned and leaned back in her chair. She opened her eye when she heard the door open and saw Vinde walk in.

Vinde looked over to Professor McGonagall. "Sorry for being late," she said. "I had a...matter to attend to."

Mcgonagall pursed her lips but didn't say anything.
