Cassie sighed, running a hand through her hair and looking at the mess on the floor in front of her. "Note to self," She muttered getting down on her knees and grabbing the dust pan. "Put breakables out of Sev's reach." She had liked that vase aswell. "Mum," Laurie shouted, from some other room in the house. "In the kitchen!" Cassie shouted back gathering all of the glass in the pan, she stood up. Putting her foot on the bin button and dropping the shards into the bin. "Careful, there's glass about." She said as Laurie appeared at the doorway. Laurie nodded staying at the doorway, it was the second week of the summer break, Laurie just coming home from her first year at Hogwarts. "Can my freind Nicole come over for a few weeks or a week or something?" Laurie asked watching as her mum went looking around the kitchen for glass that she had missed. "I suppose so." Cassie replied. "Awesome. When can she come?" "Tomorrow?" "Thanks Mum." And Laurie disapeared to write to her freind.

Nicole was rather bored. It was her first summer home from Hogwarts, and after spending the year around all the wonders of the castle being home just wasn't as fun anymore. Plus, her mum was always busy working and whatnot. So, the preteen had a lot of time to herself. She was extremely happy to get a letter from her friend, Laurie, from school. Even though they were different houses they were good friends, even after a year. Nic had wanted to spend some time over there, after discovering how very boring her house was, and she was pleased to see that it was okay with Laurie's mum. Now all she had to do was ask her own mum. The girl got up and walked down the hall to her mum's room. She knew that Lyssa would be in there, since it was her day off and she was relaxing. "Hey, mum," Nicole said poking her head in the door. "Yes?" Lyssa replied, looking up from the book she was reading. "Um...my friend wants me to spend some time at her house, just a week or two, starting tomorrow. I was wondering if that was okay..." Lyssa nodded at her. "I'm fine with it. You seemed bored around here anyway." Nicole smiled at her, and left to go pack her things, but not before writing to Laurie that she'd be there the next morning.

"Mu-um," Laurie called through the house, a year at Hogwarts had made her slightly more loud. Not as much as she had been but louder then she used to be. "Don't shout throughthe house Laurie." Cassie said surveying the kitchen and deciding she'd gotten all the glass. She could have used her wand but Cassie barely ever did, she prefered the muggle means. "You do though," Laurie replied sitting on the kitchen bench. Cassie smiled. "Anyway, Nic says she can come over, her mum will drop her over tomorrow morning or something." "Alright, now go find your brother." "Why?" "Just get him." "Fine," Laurie jumped off the bench and exited the kitchen in search for her brother. Cassie smiled watching her go.

Nicole nearly bounced back to her room to pack her things for the next day. Right now, anything seemed better than being at home. It was just so dull. She pushed her clothes and some other random things into her trunk, having cleared out her school things; they were on her desk now. She'd worry about them when she came home again. Nic had problems getting to bed that night, quite excited for the next day. At dinner that night, Lyssa had told Nic she was Flooing to her friend's, since she had work the next day quite early.

Laurie woke up fairly early the next morning, she was the type who could get up fairly early without being dead for half the day. She was mostly awake once she'd eaten breakfast. She hummed pouring herself some cereal, wondering what time Nicole was going to come over. Munching on her cereal she looked up at her mum entered the room, yawning. A hyper Severus behind her demanding some breakfast.

Lyssa had woken Nicole up before she had to leave for work, so that the girl wouldn't sleep til noon. Nicole had sleepily rolled out of bed and made herself breakfast. Afterward, she grabbed her trunk and went to the fireplace to Floo to Laurie's place. She tossed the powder in and said her destination, only to a moment later tumble out of the Evans' fireplace. She brushed herself off, with a small cough.

"Laurie," Cassie called glancing up from the book she was reading, the Evans household was really quite small and the fireplace was positioned in the kitchen/living room area. Cassie didn't really mind having a small house, there was enough room to suit her and the kids, although the kids wished it was bigger. "Hello," Cassie said nodding at the girl who had come through the fireplace. She looked faintly familiar but Cassie for the life of her could not figure out how. "I'm Cassie." Laurie entered the room at that point, smiling brightly. "Hello Nic!" She said.

Nicole finished brushing herself off, looking up to see who could only be Laurie's mum. "I'm Nicolette," she said," Nicole is fine though, as Nicolette is horribly long." Then she wondered what had stopped her from saying her full name like she usually did. Perhaps it was just a vibe. Then she saw Laurie. "Hi!" she said excitedly.

Cassie nodded, deciding that the girl looked familiar as she probably went to school with one of her parents. Though she decided not to ask who the girls parents were. "Laurie take her stuff up to your room then you two can do as you please." Laurie nodded chipperly and took the handle of Nicole's trunk, pulling it through the hallway and towards her room which was at the back of the house. She pointed out the doors as she went past them. "Sev's room, Mum's room. Bathroom. Random locked door room." Laurie had always wondered what was in that room, but she'd never been able to get in and Cassie had never answered any questions about it. "My room," Laurie opened the door to her room. "Kinda small but the whole house is, as we just walked through the whole thing."

"I think I like your house. It's much better than mine, which has way too much room for only me and my mum," Nicole replied, shrugging a little bit. They went in Laurie's room and Nicole put her trunk where it would be out of the way. "So, what should we do now?"

"Dunno," Laurie said with a shrug sitting down on her bed. "Do you have any ideas?" She asked her friend. In the corridor she heard some noise and wondered what on earth Severus had done now, he was always knocking something or other over.

"Um," Nicole thought for a moment. "We could go outside and play a game or something," she suggested.

"Tag?" Laurie suggested staring boredly at the ceiling, it was weird that even when you had freinds over you could still be bored.

Nicole shrugged. "Sure, why not." They two of them went outside.

Cassie had lunch ready and noticed the girls were out playing tiggy or something to that sort. After yelling to Severus that lunch was ready she went outside to yell at the two girls to come in. She was about to when she heard Laurie shout. "Oi! Come back here Nicole Malfoy." Cassie's eyes widened and then she frowned, nearly swearing. She knew she'd recognised the girl from somewhere. Her jaw clenched. "Girls," She said trying to make her voice freindly but failing. "Lunch. And Laurie. I want to talk to you." Laurie frowned, sensing the anger in her mum's tone.

Nic was laughing as she ran away from Laurie. Then she heard Laurie's mum calling for them, so she stopped and looked at her. Even though she hadn't been around her long, it was very open on Cassie's face that she was upset about something. The two of them made their way inside the house, the air tense.

Cassie exited the kitchen going into the hall. Laurie frowned. "Be back in a min," She said to Nicole following her mother. "What?" Laurie asked her, wondering what had happened to upset her mother. "Why didn't you tell me she was a Malfoy?" Cassie asked her, her fist clenched. Laurie hoped her mother didn't punch the wall again, she hated it when that happened. "I didn't think it mattered." Laurie said quietly. "You go on about how that judging people because of their birth is wrong, it's not Nic's fault she's a Malfoy and she's not like the other Slytherins anyway-" "She's a Slytherin?" Cassie asked incredulously. "Mum," Laurie said frowning. "What's wrong?" "Laurie," Cassie said her voice rising so that it could probably be heard from the kitchen. "Get her out of my house." "Mum-" "Now Laurie."

Nicole was sitting in the kitchen, waiting for Laurie to get back and wondering what had upset Laur's mum, when she heard Cassie. The girl frowned, and waited for them to come to the kitchen since she figured that they would. After all, if Cassie wanted her out, she'd probably see to it herself, although she would fail, because if Nicole was anything it was stubborn, and quite argumentative at times as well. While her mum could be like, Nicole had been informed that she had gotten it from her dad.

Cassie scowled at her daughter and reentered the kitchen. Laurie followed her, worried, wondering what on earth had gotten her mum so strung up. She'd heard the name and just *kaboom* she'd exploded. She didn't like where this could go. "Nicole," Cassie said rather bluntly. "Get out of my house."

Nicole looked at Cassie, and very nearly laughed. "No," she said quite plainly. "I'm not your guest here, I'm your daughter's guest. So as far as I'm concerned she's the only person with the jurisdiction to make me leave. Sorry for the inconvenience."

"It's my house," Cassie snapped at her. "I can tell you to leave if I see fit. Now get out." Laurie watched her mother, who looked on the verge of having an absolute fit. Laurie was pretty sure she had never seen her mother so worked up about something.

Nicole raised her eyebrow. She always had fun arguing with adults. Didn't often get the chance. "Did you not hear me?" she asked. "I told you I'm not leaving. Not unless Laurie tells me to. I don't know what problem you have with probably my mother or maybe my uncle, but it should not apply to me, as I'm neither of them, as is quite obvious. If I were I wouldn't likely be here right now. Now, perhaps you should go calm down, and then come back when you're thinking rationally again."

"I am not having a Malfoy in my house," Cassie snarled. Nicole being Lyssa's daughter made it worse, as she looked a lot like Lyssa had when they were that age. Cassie just couldn't stand it, not after what people with the name Malfoy had done to her and her family when she was younger. "And what I am saying now would be relevent if I was calm. Out of my house."

"Then don't think of me as a Malfoy," Nicole said. "Just think of me as Nicole, one of your daughter's best friends. I'm not here to bring back apparently bad memories for you, dead serious I'm not. I'm here to spend time with a friend. And I don't appreciate you trying to put that to a stop. And I'm almost positive Laurie agrees with me. We don't get to see each much as it is, since we're in separate houses, so please, just give us this summer."

"You look like her. I can't just not think of you like that." Cassie snapped, she turned on her foot storming out of the kitchen and slamming the door behind her. With a lot more force then was really nessesary. Laurie blinked, watching the door. She sat down on the chair frowning, she didn't like it when her mother got into one of her moods. She grabbed a sandwhich and picked at it with a sigh, not eally hungry any more.
