Brand New Day

Lyssa nodded, momentarily unable to find her voice. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said after a short moment.

Cassie looked at her doubtfully.

"Really, Cass," Lyssa said, forcing a smile.

Cassie frowned slightly.

Lyssa frowned at the frown. "What?"

"Your cheek is red, so unless you randomly fell on a pot plant..."

Lyssa froze for a second. She hadn't even considered that her cheek might be red. "Uhh, that? It's nothing. Honest."

"I believe you," Cassie said doubtfully.

"Cassie, please?"

"FIne," Cassie said with a sigh letting it drop.

Lyssa gave her a small smile. "Thanks," she said.

After dinner Cassie made her way into Lyssa's room. "Lyssa, are you sure you're fine? You've been kinda quiet since the pool, and well you're face is kinda bruising."

Lyssa opened her eyes to look at Cassie, having had them shut while laying down. "Yeah, I'm sure I'm fine."

"Okay," Cassie said still frowning, going off to her room.

Lyssa closed her eyes again with a sigh. She knew Cassie wouldn't let it go for long.

A little less than a week had passed, Cassie had (mostly) behaved herself, well, she hadn't gotten Lyssa in trouble. Not to say that Lyssa hadn't gotten in trouble, the last few times the girl had brought it on herself.

Lyssa sighed as she knocked on Cassie's door, wondering if the bruise on the side of her face was going to become some permanent throughout the summer. After the other girl answered, Lyssa said, "It's time for lunch, so my father sent me to get you." Then she turned and walked off before Cassie could comment about the red mark now on the other side of her face as she had just gotten done talking to Lucius.

At lunch there was some casual Hogwarts talk and at some point Draco said, "It would be better without all the Mudbloods being there."

Cassie had tried to behave lately, for Lyssa's sake at least, but those type of comments pissed the Gryffindor off immeansly. She could not stand them, and before she had the chance to say twice she replied to Draco. "Well I think that it would be better if the majority of the Slytherin's didn't think they were better just because of their blood status." She attacked her lunch rather viciously with her fork.

The whole table went silent, killing the only lengthy conversation of the summer. As Lyssa glanced at Lucius, she could tell he was not happy at all.

The only talking that broke the rest of the meal was Lucius requesting to see Lyssa after the meal again.

Lyssa just nodded, looking down at her plate, not very hungry anymore.

The meal ended, and Cassie went off to her room. Well in fact, she went to Lyssa's sitting on the girl's bed. She was going to get it out of Lyssa this time.

Lucius got up, walking out of the room towards his office.

Lyssa, quite slowly, followed Lucius.

Getting to his office Lucius walked in, gesturing for Lyssa to shut the door.

Lyssa closed the door behind her, staring at Lucius, tense in anticipation of what was probably to come.
