Brand New Day

Cassie nodded. "Sure," She said walking over.

Lyssa smiled at her slightly while looking around the room slightly. "Suppose I should be glad it doesn't look like a hurricane hit it yet," she commented backing out of the room so Cassie could get out as well.

"Yet is the keyword there," Cassie said exiting the room and shutting the door behind her. "Because no doubt it'll get there sometime soon."

Lyssa sighed slightly, frown almost appearing. "Cassie, must you wreck it?" she asked, tone disapproving of the action. "I mean honestly. Is it so hard for you to be neat?"

"Yes it is, i am just a general messy person and neatness is not easy to acheive."

"Well, I would appreciate it if you would try," Lyssa muttered as they neared the dining room.

"I can try, butit's not going to work." Cassie said as theygot into the dining room.

Lyssa sighed. "Suppose that's all I can ask of you," she muttered before falling silent just like the dining room was. Meals never had much talking. Lyssa took her place at the table, next to Draco.

Cassie sat down next to Lyssa, somewhat awkwardly. She didn't like the silence at the meals at the Malfoy house was awkward. As the meals in her house were always so busy and loud.

The meal went by with only small tidbits of conversation. Lyssa, however, was silent the whole time, just focusing on her food.

Cassie sighed softly, pushing her meal around her plate. She'd eaten enough and was waiting for Lyssa to finish hers.

Lyssa finished up eating and looked at her parents for permission to leave the table. Receiving a nod from Lucius, Lyssa pushed back her chair and stood.

Cassie pushed her chair in, following Lyssa out of the room.

As soon as Lyssa walked from the dining room, she exhaled a sigh-like breath. That had actually gone better than she had pictured.

"I don't like meals here," Cassie muttered following Lyssa. "Is it that hard to actually talk while you eat?"

Lyssa shrugged. "It's just something we've always done and such," she replied. "Unless of course it's a party. That's completely different and is very chattery."

"It's disconcerting," Cassie said. "I dunno, I'm probably just used to the noise of meals."

Lyssa shrugged again, heading up the stairs that led to her room.

Later that day the girls were sitting at the table, dinner about to be served. Cassie's expression grew dark at the apperance of the house elves. While she did try to be civil to Lyssa's family, well parents at least, house elves were something that the girl could not stand. And her senses sort of flew out the window with the apperance of them. "Ridiculous," She muttered looking at the creatures as they put the meal on the table. "Cause it's not that hard to make your own food." She'd said it under her breath, but as there was no talking it was no doubt that the other occupants of the table could hear.

Lyssa frowned deeply as Lucius' face darkened at Cassie's comments. That wasn't a good thing. "Cass," she said sharply, as if trying to convey to the girl that those comments should be kept to herself.

Cassie shrugged at Lyssa, she knew that saying stuff like that in front of the elder Malfoys was a stupid idea, but she really couldn't help it. She couldn't stand the way house-elves were treated, it was ridiculous. "It's true," She said with a slight shrug and lapsed into silence for the rest of the meal.

Lyssa looked down at her plate, tense for the remainder of the meal. She was surprised her father hadn't said anything just then, but figured it was all just getting saved up for when he told her off after dinner for not keeping Cassie in line.

Cassie finished her meal, putting the fork down on the plate.

As dinner was coming to a close, Lucius spoke. "Melyssa meet me in my study after dinner. I have a matter to discuss with you." Lyssa just nodded in response. "Yes, sir."

the meal ended and Cassie went off to her room. Lucius snapping his fingers called for the house-elves to pick up the residue of the dinner and headed off to his office, expecting Melyssa to follow him. He got to his office and opened the door, walking in. He motioned for his daughter to shut the door behind her.
