Do You Know Your Enemy?

Lesley Stanley sat in Charms, half listening to what the teacher was saying. It was a theory lesson and those bored the hell out of Stanley, she was half taking notes and half drawing on her page, aimless scribbles that worked their way up the margins, making no apparent sense. She was bored, and wondered how much longer the class had. She zoned in, scribbling whatever the teacher was saying before going back to her drawings. She yawned, drawing an eye above the title of her notes. She wondered what the teacher would think if they had to hand up these notes, not they they would. Because half of the class wouldn't be taking notes.

Charms class.

Corey had always thought that it was such a waste of a class. Taking notes? Absolutely worthless. Everything he ever needed to know, he could figure out for himself. What was the point of such a stupid, worthless subject? His parents had taught him most of it when he was five years old, anyway.

Nevertheless, Corey kept up the pretense of paying attention. No one really bought it except for the professor--Cor was never the studious type. He was more the type who got away with doing nothing.

Because that's what he did. Absolutely nothing. That was the way he liked it.

Since the professor was off in the land of mindless charms, Corey decided to stir up some fun. He crumpled up some of his parchment--his family was rich enough that he didn't have to worry about being wasteful--and he aimed towards the head of a girl sitting nearby--was her name Lesley or something? Using that stupid levitating charm they learned back in first year, he hurled it against her head, and then resumed his carefully feigned attention towards the teacher.

Something hit Lesley in the back of the head, she put her hand on the back of her head and than glanced behind her. A crumpled piece of parchment lay on the floor next to her chair. She frowned somewhat looking at the people behind her, most of them were zoning off into space, and a few were listening. Glancing at the teacher who was too busy talking to take much notice of anything else she picked up the parchment. Throwing it up and down in her hand she frowned again wondering who threw it. Her first guess was Hampshire who was sitting quite close behind her. Hell if he was listening to what the teacher was saying. Not caring if she was wrong Lesley threw the piece of paper back at him. Landing on his desk.

Cor watched out of the corner of his eye as Lesley reacted to the wad of paper. It really wasn't as amusing as he would have liked--she really didn't have too much of a reaction. She threw the paper back at him, although from the look in her eyes, it seemed as if it was more of a guess than anything else. He kept a straight face, opting out of the smirk that threatened to creep up.

He took out some other victims, never picking two people in a row in the same area of the classroom. He always acted when the teacher's back was turned--discretion was in his nature. He didn't really have to bother, since he didn't care about consequences, but it was a more opportune time, since the students were usually paying attention to whatever he was doing up at the board.

The class ended, Lesley put her things away in her bag as she walked. Because she didn't like having to put them away and then head off, she liked to do it as she walked. But, like a lot of the times when she tried to walk and put things away she ended up dropping her book and a whole bunch of papers. Lesley swore slightly under her breath, dropping to the floor to pick them up. Which was a inconvince to the others getting out of the class as she was in the middle. She gathered up her book, shoving it into her bag and went to grab her papers, hoping that someone wouldn't stand on them. As part of it, was her transfiguration assignment and she didn't want it crumpled or messed up.

Cor watched as that Lesley girl proceeded to drop all of her papers. It was a beautiful sight to watch them all fall to the ground, with the grace and beauty of complete chaos at work in the world. They seemed a bit scattered, which was bad enough, but what was even more unfortunate was that they managed to fall write in the middle of the walkway, so she was blocking everyone from exiting the room. Cor couldn't help but grin--he was just that kind of a person.

"Need a little help?" he asked, still smirking as he worked his way up to the front of the crowd of people. He expected a firm denial from the blushing, uncomfortable, and clearly angry Lesley, but he figured he'd try anyway. It was more fun that way, and if there was one thing that Cor liked, it was a good time. Teasing someone who was in an embarrassing situation was always a good time, in his book.

"Ow," Lesley muttered as someone pushed past her, their bag knocking her in the head. "Watch it." She muttered grumpily. Her head turned from her scattered sheets to glance at Corey. "I'm fine," She said her tone on the edge of irritation, the guy wasn't the type to help so more than likely he was just saying that to annoy her. She scooped up the rest of her sheets moving out of the walk way so the class could exit. Plopping them down on the table, she sifted them so they were in a somewhat neat pile and filed them into her folder. "Generally," She said slinging her bag back over her shoulder. "When you ask someone if they want help, you help them before they answer." She shrugged at him, walking out of the classroom.

Lesley tried to shrug him off, but Cor was having way too much fun, at this point. "Oh, but I know you would have turned me down. You clearly had it all taken care of, and all that. So, I figured I would ask, being polite, while not forcing my service on you. You don't seem like the type to say you don't want someone's help and not mean it. Who was I to step in and go against that? Besides, you're cute when you're angry." Cor shot her a quick, sarcastic wink and strolled off, leaving her behind like she tried to leave him behind. He hoped they were in classes together more often. She was fun to poke at.

Lesley watched Corey walk off, and rolled her eyes jostling her bag around. "Idiot," She muttered going to her next class, which she was thinking was potions. She still hadn't really mesmorized her timetable yet and couldn't be bothered getting it out of her bag as it was at the bottom. She hoped Corey would leave her alone, she did not have the patience to deal with idiot right then, not that she really ever did.

Corey watched for the rest of the day for one Lesley Stanley (he had done a bit of digging to discover her name). It was rather entertaining--he would find her, she would avoid him, he would show an unusual persistence (for him) and follow her around until he succeeded in pestering her to death. So far, from the results of that day, he was starting to believe it wasn't possible to pester someone to death. It really was a shame. It would be so entertaining to watch, Corey mused.

He walked towards the Ravenclaw common room, wondering whether she would have retreated after the long day or was still out, attempting to do homework.

Lesley was starting to get really irritated by Corey by the end of the day, he was intent on pestering her and Les just wished he would go away and leave her alone. She was very tempted to throw her book at him, but didn't. She was close to it though. She had retired to the common room, but was finishing off her homework in it, having all the information she needed, just needed to write it out. She kept glancing at her notes as she wrote it out. Onto the last paragraph. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Corey enter the room and hoped that he would leave her alone to finish her assignment.

Corey was bored. This was really nothing new, of course. He was constantly bored--especially when he was in school. He had already figured out which homework he was going to blow off for the day, and he was looking to stir up a bit of trouble. When he saw Lesley sitting in the common room, working on homework, a giant, mischievous grin lit up his face. Boredom went out the window. She was particularly fun to be around, although it was hardly intentional on her part. She had no idea how large of a source of entertainment she was.

He walked up slowly, making as little noise as possible, and jumped at her from behind, trying to catch her off guard.

Lesley jumped, knocking a book off of the table and nearly upturning her ink pot over her homework. Which thankfully didn't, as she did not want to have to restart it. She cut off the loud swear word so all that come out was a rather loud. "Shhhh," She spun around, seeing Corey standing behind her with a grin on his face. She gave him a frustrated look before turning to pick her book up off the floor. "Don't you have more important things to do? Like, I don't know, try and not fail your classes?" She turned back to her work setting the book down onto the table.

It was entirely worth the effort of keeping quiet. Not that it was much of an effort for Corey. Nothing really ever was.

Lesley's reaction was completely worth it. She jumped about a foot into the air, turning around very rapidly to lecture him. It did not bother him at all--he was used to lectures. He scoffed at her question.

"Try not to fail my classes? Why would anyone have to actually try that? I mean, I'm sure some deluded people actually have to work to get by, but I find that that doesn't really work out for me. To each their own, as they say?" Corey looked at Lesley with disdain. "I see that you are one of those poor souls who believe in studying?"

Lesley raised her eyebrow at him, turning around in her seat again to face him. "I'm not deluded," She said, Corey frustrated her quite a lot. And while she knew just ignoring him would the best idea because he would get bored of it if she didn't respond she couldn't just not respond. "I'm not studying to get good grades, I'm studying so I understand more about the theory around it and how it works. Which is probably lost of you."

Corey hid his grin behind his smirk. He really did pick the perfect target. Lesley seemed to be one of those people who knew to shut up, but couldn't seem to manage it. This made things all the more fun for Corey. Her reactions were so perfect--she was indignant when she defended her precious studying habits, and did not seem to realize at all that she was working too hard for something that didn't last.

"Oh, I understand perfectly," Corey stated, quite honestly. "I just don't need to crack a book to do it." He leaned uncomfortably close to Lesley's face to draw a reaction. "Some of us know that the world does not revolve around book smarts." Corey grinned dazzlingly.

Lesley leaned back in her chair to get away from Corey without actually getting out of the chair. She didn't particularly like being shoving their faces into her face. Especially people she wanted to whack over the head with a book. She really knew she should just turn around, but he was too annoying just to ignore, and, even though people bugging her drove her mad arguements were somewhat fun.

"You know," Lesley said picking her book up. "Book aren't just good for studying," And she whacked him over the head with it. It wasn't exactly a light book either. She felt like whacking him again, but decided against it.

Lesley whacked him in the head with her book. Cor was a bit taken aback by this development, but he hid it with a trace of amusement in his sparkling eyes and a slight curl of his lips in the smirk placed firmly on his face.

"Now, now. There's no need to get feisty. Although," he paused for a second, mimicking pondering a matter intensely, "I do rather like them feisty, as a general rule, I suppose." Cor looked her over with an appraising eye.

"Books are good for studying and attempting to knock people unconscious. I'll note that, oh bearer of great knowledge," Corey said, with a large amount of sarcasm in his voice.

Lesley whacked her face into her palm. How could someone be so frustrating? It was unbelievable. She gave him a frustrated look, dropping her book onto the table instead of placing it. Causing a loud bang as book met wood.

She turned around, away from him again and back to her assignment, frowning, she dipped her quill into the ink pot and continued on the sentence she had been writing before being interrupted. Though she wasn't too sure if she had written down what she had been thinking before. It didn't seem what it had meant to.

She half scowled half sighed into her work.

Corey watched as Lesley tried to get back to work, but it seemed that he had succeeded in thoroughly shattering her attention span. Corey grinned and sat down next to Lesley.

"So, Lesley, right? Surely you shorten that. It's two syllables--much to long." Corey paused for a second, running through the options in his head, before declaring, "I'm calling you Les from now on. I hope that's alright for you, because if it's not, you're going to have to put up with that. Oh well." Cor gave her another gleaming grin.

Lesley grumbled under her breath, staring down at her page and trying to work out what she had been meaning to say. While she could work when mildly distracted she didn't work very well when incredibly pissed off. She tried to ignore Corey, looking at her page. But she'd lost her concerntration, with a sigh she shut the book. Screwing the lid back onto her ink pot she gave up.

She gave Corey a frustrated look, she generally only liked people calling her by a nickname if they were her friend, though she knew Corey was doing it for that reason to piss her off. "Suite yourself," She said throwing her books back into her bag and placing the tightly screwed ink pot in, once she hadn't screwed it tight enough and the ink had seeped through her book and through all of her books.

Corey sighed. It was time to switch things up, then, it seemed.

"Les, what's wrong? You do seem to be in a dreadful mood." He deliberately made his voice softer, seeming to lose its mocking edge from a moment before. He realized that annoying her clearly just alienated her, which wasn't his original purpose.

Lesley scowled at him, she really wasn't in the mood. She'd been planning on nearly finishing her assignment but was too frustrated now to work on it. "Bugger off," She muttered pushing her chair back and standing up. She swung her bag over her shoulder giving Corey a frustrated look as she turned around and headed towards the girl's dorms.

Corey grinned. He had genuinely gotten to her. He managed to sneak into her head, making her angry. He got to her. He bugged her.

He broke the good-natured facade she maintained.

It was rather satisfying. However, Cor knew that she eventually would need to come back down. He noticed a stray book on the table. Flipping through, he saw her name in the back, and he smiled. Yes, she would come back, panicking, looking for that book. He would pounce on her, then.

Lesley scowled getting into her room, she dumped her books on her bed, and sat down with a thump next to it kicking her shoes off. Crossing her legs over she pulled her books out of her school bag. She might as well continue while the dorm room was still empty. She frowned, pulling out her assignment and looking around for her book. Which happened to not be in her bag, or on the floor around her. "Oh bugger it," She thought knowing she'd left it downstairs. She sighed getting up off of the bed and heading back downstairs to find her book. She headed to the table she'd been sitting at, frowning when the book wasn't sitting nicely on the desk.
