The Cruelty of the Writers (Previously 'Bleh to lazy to think of a catchy title)

"Get. Off. Of. The. Bridge. Now," Vena hissed walking over to it. It didn't look that stable to her. She looked at Nicole, more worried then she was making out.

Nicole looked at Vena for another minute. "No," she said. "Now go away."

"No I am not going to walk away and let you throw yourself off a bloody bridge. Get back over here and stop being ridicolous."

Nicole shook her head. "I'm not being ridiculous," she said. "And you don't have to let me do anything, since you're apparently going to let me make my own decisions. I'm deciding to do it." She looked down at the water again, current plenty visible even in just the light of the moon. Then she closed her eyes, moving forward on the railing so that she was teetering on the edge. She looked at Vena one more time, and then she took her hands off the railing, allowing herself to fall.

Vena swore, twirled her wand sending a spell at Nicole. Which just stopped Nicole from falling. She flicked her wand again levitating the girl over towards her before she ended the spell. "Merlin Nicole," She exclaimed. "You have no freaking idea how much you scared me right then."

Nicole struggled against the spell, and glared at Vena once she had been levitated next to the girl. "Why did you do that?" she snapped. "I was perfectly content to be falling. It was the nicest I've felt in a while. It was free."

"Because you were going to freaking kill yourself. Do you even think of what that would to do your mum? To me? Merlin Nicole." Vena tried to calm herself down, which only margionally worked.

"Yes, I did think about it," Nicole replied. "And I decided it would hurt you guys less if I were gone than if you had to watch me be miserable all the time. Plus, I'm selfish. I put myself first."

"You probably would have driven your mother to the same thing," Vena said keeping her voice calm. "Nicole, just. Ah." Vena ran a hand through her hair in slight frustration.

"She would have been fine. She lived without me for 15 years, I think the rest of her life she could handle."

"I don't think so, not when you died. And not if she blames herself for it. Which she would have."

"It wouldn't have been her fault though," Nicole replied. "I would have been my decision." She took a step away from Vena. "now if you'll excuse me I have a bridge to properly jump off of this time."

"She still would have blamed herself for it. And Nicole Malfoy, you are not getting anywhere near that bridge again."

Nicole gave Vena an 'oh really' look. "I'm not, am I?" she asked. "Well, just watch me." Then she started to make her way back to the bridge at a pace that wasn't quite a run, but wasn't a walk either.

Vena twirled her wand again, forcing Nicole to stop. "You are either going to walk willingly back to you house or I'll make you." It faintly reminded Vena of the first time they met as she said something along those lines then.

Nicole looked at Vena sharply. "Why don't you just let me die already?"

Vena looked at her. "Because I don't want you to die, and neither does anyone else. We'd miss you too much Nic."

"What about what I want?"

"Is this instant doesn't count, we can be selfish too you know. And you are not leaving us, not now not until we're all really old." She made a face at the thought of ebing old.

"So you'd rather be selfish and have me be miserable all the time, instead of being kind and letting me do this? Because I can't freaking stand this, and I just want to disappear most of the time. I don't know what I would do."

"Nicole, killing yourself won't solve your problems. Sure, you won't have to deal with them. But you'll leave us picking up your stupid mess because you don't want to it yourself. You only get one chance at life kid and you're throwing it away."

"My chance at any sort of life was thrown away the day my grandfather gave into Voldemort, successfully screwing my whole family over," Nicole snapped, finding herself irritated. She didn't even know why she had bothered with her stupid freaking note now; if she hadn't Vena wouldn't have shown up when she did.

Vena frowned. "Nicole, its cause you're not trying. You're not trying to fix yourself. If you just fricken did then you wouldn't be in this mess. Stop whining that your life is over and that it sucks, when you're not doing anything to try and make it better."

"I have been trying Vena," Nicole said. "Don't you understand that? Nothing is working. Do you think I want to feel the way I do? Because I don't. I just don't know what else to do to fix it."

"I'm not letting you throw yourself off a bridge," Vena said shortly. "Deal with it. And you are going home. Now."
