Betrayal At Its Best

Cassie sighed and because she'd just abouted gathered her wits she set off down the hall. Still wanting to get away from the fighting for a little bit. "Ow," Cassie exclaimed tripping over a random rock on the ground. "Stupid rock," Se muttered kicking it and watchin it skitter across the floor. As she watched it she noticed Lyssa and scowled and sighed.

Lyssa was staring off rather aimlessly, while still alert, when a rock came to rest by her foot. Her initial thought was why is there a rock in Hogwarts? when she realized that didn't matter and what did matter was how the rock got to where it was. She looked in the direction the rock had come from to see Cassie. "You just keep showing up, don't you?"

"Not my fault," Cassie replied. "I was getting away from the fighting. Kind of hard to duel when one is slightly light headed." She glanced at the roof seeing a crack in it and supposing that was where the rock had come from. Probably because of the battle roaring below.

Lyssa shrugged lightly, picking up the rock and tossing it up and down leisurely. "That makse sense I suppose," she muttered. She found herself feeling oddly empty as she watched the rock.

Cassie narrowed her eyes at Lyssa. "What's with the sudden change of personality?" She asked.

Lyssa shrugged, as she missed catching the rock. It skittered across the floor. She watched it. "I'm just tired, I guess," she replied. Then she looked at Cassie. "Why did you push me out of the way?"

Cassie shrugged glancing down at her feet. "Cause as much as I freaking hate you right now I still love you." Cassie kept looking at her feet, not wanting to look up.

Lyssa let out a short, almost cold laugh. "You are, by far, the stupidest, most ridiculous person I've ever come across."

"I'm stupid and ridiculous?" Cassie asked raising an eyebrow. "THat's exactly what I'm not. I'm not trying to help some sycopath intent of wiping out the majority of the world. What are you going to get out of this? You're going to be taking Orders from someone for the rest of your life. Who will probably kill you once you are no longer of use to him. I'm fighting for what I believe in not taking the easy road out and I actually have feeling, I'm not heartless like you appear to be. I'd care if I killed someone. Expecially my former best freinds sibling."

Lyssa ran her hand through her hair, waiting for Cassie to finish. "This road is far from easy, and you know that. You basically said it yourself. It can't be easy when there's the threat of dying. And I don't think I'm completely heartless. I did tell your parents what happened, rather than leave them in the dark." Then she smirked.

Cassie's mouth dropped open momenterially and she snarled threateningly at Lyssa. "You fucking bitch," She snarled at her. "You call that not being heartless? You would have broken her fricken heart. Is that how you repay someone after how they've helped you? We took you in Lyss, when you didn't want to go home. You were like a daughter to mum and a sister to me and Liz. I was there for you every step of the way, someone you could fall back on if you needed to. But I never got the same from you Lyss, I was constantly shoved aside because of Draco's needs or your needs, I don't even see why you bothered to be my freind for six years. It obviously didn't mean the same for you as it did for me."

Lyssa stood up from where she was still sitting, shaking her head back and forth slightly. "Cassie, Cassie, Cassie," she said, "don't think it broke your mum's heart the day I showed up at your doorstep, pretending the be dsitraught over the kidnapping of my best friend, only to steal her second daughter from right out from under her nose? I think I did, if I meant anything to her like you said I did. And I never saw why you would go to all of those lengths for me. I was never worth it, destined to go bad from the day it was decided that I would be born a Malfoy. There's no fighting family. Not without things going horrobly wrong in the process."

Cassie wanted to do a few things at once. The main two included shouting and crying. She had never been good at controlling her emotions but two opoisites were crashing down on her at once. In the end crying won out and she leaned against the wall, tears wracked at her body and she wove her arms around her chest in some sort of protective stance. "You don't get it," Cassie said inbetween sobs. She was sure she had felt so vunerable in her life. And that included wen she was at Voldemort mercy. "I don't just give people the title of best freind so I can say 'hey look I have a best freind' but because being around that person makes me happy. Because I loved being around her." Cassie sniffed, her arms still wrapped around her chest. "Maybe it's stupid, but you improved my life and after six years of that I can't just drop it and "actually stuff this, I am going to figure out a way to make you life hell."

Lyssa stared at Cassie for a moment, some of the emotions she'd buried so deep within herself cracking the surface, nearly breaking her emotionless stare. The blank facial expression faltered for just a second before Lyssa controlled it again. She couldn't let her emotions break through. The weight of what they'd built up to be would crush her under them. "I was never worth it, Cassie," she said, voice nearly even. "And I never will be. I'm beginning to think I'm just meant to hurt people."

"You were worth it to me," She said quietly rubbing the tears out of her eyes with her hand and sniffing. Her head was pounding from her crying, her stomache felt odd and she felt rather bleck all over it. "Even if you can't see the good qualities you used to have. You had them."

"If I can't see them, then name them," Lyssa challenged. "Try to convince me that I was ever worth anything more than nothing. " Inwardly, she frowned at this girl. She was the first person in months to break her facade. Not even Draco had been able to.

"Why?" Cassie shouted at her. "Why should I bother?" Her voice was rising steadily. "You're not going to listen to me! You're not going to believe me! It would just be a waste of my fricken time." She took a deep breath trying to calm herself down, her emotions had all gone out of whack lately. She took a step to walk away but her body just couldn't stand it and her legs gave way under her, she let out a gasp of pain but didn't bother trying to get up. She'd much rather stay lying on the floor then deal with anything.

"Because," Lyssa said, voice quieter than it had been, "you're breaking through. No one has done that yet." Then she turned the opposite direction to walk off, but not moving for a second to see if she was getting a response.

"I'm your best freind Lyss," Cassie said quietly, unsure if Lyssa could hear her. "It's my job to break through."

Lyssa turned back around. "But I don't need someone to break through. The emotions that would follow it would break me," she said.

"It's better then staying indifferent," Cassie stood up weakly, leaning against the wall for support. "Do you really want to be someone everyone hates? Someone that has no qualms in ripping families apart?"

"There is not one person that matters that I can think of that doesn't hate me, even just a little, so what does it matter?" Lyssa replied. "And I haven't ripped families apart." She stopped, trying to banish the quiver that had entered her voice. "Just...just one."

"Just mine," Cassie said, blinking back tears that threatened to run down her face. "Why Lyss?" Cassie asked her. "Why?"

"I don't know," Lyssa replied. "I'm sure there was a reason at the time, but I've long since buried it within me, and it doesn't want to resurface."

Cassie didn't say anything, she shut her eyes leaning against the wall. After a little bit she said. "You can't just...kill someone and have no reason for it. You have no idea do you, the pain you've caused me. And not just because of my sister. Not just because you tore my family apart. Just that once I needed to fall back on you and you let me fall."
