I'm leaving this history behind me. Burn me off your family tree but nothing can stop me.

"Oh hey Pete," James said when Peter followed him into the kitchen. He pulled out the bread and cut himself a slab biting into it. "Want some?" he asked the boy, pulling out spreads to lather the bread it. Peter shook his head. James shrugged and took another bite, covering it in topping. He stood there for a few minutes, eating his bread and sighed. "Suppose we should go back," he muttered and then made a face. "If it's safe to re-enter without wanting to obliviate myself," he cut himself another slab and took it with him back into the room, knowing if his mother appeared he'd get a lecture about getting food on the carpet.

Sirius heard the footsteps in the hallway before the returning two reached the door. "Get your asses in here!" he called once they'd reached it knowing that it wouldn't wake Remus up. When he napped after transformations not even the world ending could wake him up.

"No need to yell," James muttered entering the room finishing off his slab of bread. He glanced at Moony. "Poor guy."

"I didn't yell..." Sirius muttered. "And it's not like he would have woken up if I had. You know how he is."

"I know, but still, Mum will think you've burnt the house down."

"That was ONE time. Jeez..." Sirius muttered scowling at his friend. "And we were eleven."

"She hasn't forgotten it," he shook his head. "Fantastic memory that woman, a pity really."

"Ridiculous..." Sirius muttered before remembering something. "Oh! I got Moony to agree to tell us next time." He nodded, somewhat proud of himself.

"That's good," he frowned at the boy's sleeping form. "We should really pay more attention to the moon cycle..."

"Yeah..." Sirius sighed. "You know...he's convinced we do more for him than he does for us. That's why he didn't tell us. And, yet, here we are not even knowing unless he DOES tell us...."

James frowned. "I dunno, pretty sure without his help I'd have failed half of my classes by now..."

"Yeah, me too." Sirius sighed again. "D'you think he'll ever realize just how much WE need him?"

James sighed. "I don't know, maybe, maybe not, I hope so."

"Yeah, me too." Sirius sighed quietly and looked at Remus with a sad look on his face. "Is it weird?" he asked, addressing the question to James and Peter. "Me and him?"

"I guess, not in a bad way," he said hastily. "It's just, unexpected and odd really. I mean," he shrugged and sighed. "No-one really expects two of their best friends to get together, nor what would happen if that did. I'm not quite sure how I'm meant to react to it all. I mean, I have no problems or anything, but, y'know."

"Well, we could have kept it a secret from you for the next two years..." Sirius muttered.

"No, I'm glad that you told me. I want to know these things, I'm your friend. I just, need to get used to the idea is all."

"Good, because keeping it secret for six months was hard enough. Any longer would have been murderous."

"Hmmm," James murmured, wondering how the relationship was going to work. And what would happen if it fell out, as the two probably wouldn't want to be anyway near each other. Or how much it was going to effect the generalness of the group.

"Prongs, think for a second, did anything change at the end of the school year because of this? No. So, stop your useless worrying." It was almost like Sirius could read his mind, but they were best friends for a reason.

"You were hiding it last year," James replied. "You might act completely differently now that it's in the open."

"...okay you have a point, but not too much!" Sirius protested. "See, we're still sort of hiding, because you and Peter are the only two who know about it..."

James nodded. "I suppose so," he said. "I just don't want everything to fall to shambles or anything."

"Nothing's going to fall to shambles. Stop being such a pessimist."

"I'm not, I'm not," he shrugged. "Anyway, change of topic. We need to make grand maraudery plans." (Or plants as I wrote the first time)
