"I'm not completely sure, but the way you always get offended when I call you stupid is kind of entertaining."

"That is because you have no reason to call me stupid."

"But it's funnest to be bitchy to you."

"Haven't changed much I see," Cassie mused.

"Or have I and I'm just this way to you?"

"You were this way to me back then too, so, not much of a chance that way."

"And that made absolutely no sense."

Cassie shrugged. "Whatever," she said, grabbing a jar of something off of the shelf.

Lyssa shrugged. "So," she said carrying on the conversation anyway, "how have you been?"

(shush.)

Cassie sighed. "As pleasant as this conversation is, I do have things I need to do so I can get back home."

"Work and talk. It's no fun to stand next to someone you haven't seen in years and not speak to them."

"And why do you want to talk to me?"

"It's like I just said. I haven't seen you in years. And, we were best friends once upon a time. I liked talking to you back then and old habits die hard."

"Shouldn't have screwed up then, should you," Cassie murmured and then frowned. She realised then that she didn't know which side Lyssa was on, if she was on one at all.

"I don't know. I kind of like how things have turned out." Lyssa was half-lying at the moment but Cassie didn't need to know that.

Cassie's frown deepened. "And that," she said. "Is why I don't want to talk to you."

Lyssa faked a pout. "Well, that's mean."

"You're mean."

Lyssa laughed. "Yeah, I am. But it's fun."

Cassie rolled her eyes. "You continue having fun with that, but perhaps somewhere else, so I can get on with my shopping in peace."

(Less than twelve. Like, five or something.)

"But it's so much fun. You get riled up so easily!"

"Good for you," she said grabbing her last ingredient off of a shelf.

"You never did tell me how you've been. I was trying to be civil then, you know."
