| Cassie Evans strolled into platform nine and three quaters, her mother Sammy being only a few feet behind. Cassie had never been dropped off for school by her father and her sister had never come to see her off either. Both had said goodbye before Cassie left but neither ever seemed inclined to come. Cassie couldn't really blame Lizzie, who was a muggle and most probably jelouse of the fact that Cassie was a witch. Not that Lizzie would ever say so. Though she didn't really get why her father was, probably because he was such a logical, science person and magic completly turned that upside down. "Cya Mum," Cassie said hugging her mother breifly. "Bye Cass, you have fun at school and tell Lyssa hi when you see her." "I will." Cassie replied with a smile. She picked up her case and set off to the train, pulling her case onto it, she first cheaked to make sure Lyssa wasn't already on it and then went to find an empty carraidge. The sixth year Gryffindor girl found one near the end of the train and dumped her case inside. | |

| Lyssa, oddly enough had shown up with her family for once. That hadn't happened since first year. But over the summer she'd patched up things with her mum. Plus, she felt the strong need to be there with her brother. She walked close to him, hoping to help calm his nerves just a little bit. They reached the platform and turned their mother. She hugged them both tightly in her oddly motherly way. It was a surprising act, due to how the Black family, Narcissa's last name before marriage, was raised. Lyssa didn't quite hug back, still not entirely used to affection from the older woman. Then she and Draco walked to the train. Lyssa walked along the train for a while, until she spotted Cassie. "Hey," she said, walking into the compartment. | |

| Cassie was staring absent mindedly out the windowlooking onto the platform when she heard Lyssa. Cassie turned around pushing her hair out of her face. "Hey," She said looking at her freind as she sat down. "How was your summer?" Cassie readjusted how she was sitting so she was facing the middle of the compartant and no longer out the window. | |

| Lyssa shrugged at Cassie sitting down across from her and looking out the window a bit. "Mum and I have made up, so it was ok. Better than it would have been if Lucius hadn't landed himself in Azkaban," she replied, feeling slightly like she was lying, since the summer had been almost anything but ok. | |

| "It's good that the two of you made up," Cassie said and inwardly smiled at the fact that Lucius had been chucked into Azkaban. The only problem is brought was the factthat people would now knowinstead of having an educated guess that the Malfoy's were connected with Voldemort. At least most knew that Lyssa didn't really classify herself as a Malfoy most of the time. "How's Draco?" She asked, not that she really cared but she usaully asked anyway. | |

| Lyssa shrugged. "Draco's....I don't actually know. He's sort of avoided everyone the last couple of weeks. I've tried talking to him, but he won't say anything," Lyssa said, proud of her ability to lie. It was true that Draco was avoiding everyone and it was true that he wouldn't talk about why. But it wasn't true that Lyssa didn't know why. She knew perfectly well why. | |

| "Do you have any idea whats it about?" Cassie asked her with a frown wondering what was going on with Draco, she supposed it could have something to do with the fact that Lucius was in Azkaban but she didn't know. She looked out the window and noticed that the train had started to move and then wondered how she hadn't noticed that. | |

| Lyssa just shrugged at Cassie again. "No, unfortunately I don't," she said, looking down at her lap. She was sort of apprehensive that Cassie would call her out on her lies, since the two had been friends for six years and counting. | |

| "Liar," Cassie said softly but when Lyssa looked up she continued. "You don't need to tell me, it's a personal thing so." She shrugged. "And anyway, it wouldn't really be your secret to tell and I'm sure Draco doesn't want me to know whatever it is." The Gryffindor girl shrugged again. | |

| Lyssa just looked back down at her lap after looking up for a moment. She didn't say anything for a long moment, just sitting there in silence, frowning, eyes focused on her hands. "It scares me," she finally said extremely quiet. | |

| "I'm sure it'll work out somehow," Cassie said frowning, giving advice for something that she didn't know what it was wasn't exactly an easy thing to do. | |

| The train trip to Hogwarts that year had never been more awkward. The attemps at conversation seemed to splutter and die after a few moments. "You okay Lyss?" Cassie asked as the two girls got into their robes as they were nearing the station at Hogsmead. "It's just been kinda quiet..." Cassie shrugged. | |

| Lyssa looked at Cassie and attempted to smile, but failed. "It's nothing," she said. "I'm fine." Then she went back to being quiet. | |

| Cassie shrugged again and looked out the window, it was dark now and Cassie could see the stars twinkling in the sky, though not the moon. She supposed the moon was on the other side of the sky and so she couldn't see it out the window she was looking out. | |

| "I'm sorry, ok? I would tell you, if not for the fact that I've been backed into a corner with nowhere to go except straight to the snake that's backed me there," Lyssa said, wondering if Cassie would notice her added hint. | |

| Cassie shrugged again. "Yeah I get it." She said. The train pulled to a stop and making sure she had everything, Cassie slipped her shoes on and grabbed her case off the floor. | |

| Lyssa was frowning as the train came to a stop and all the students disembarked, headed either to the carriages, or for the first years to the boats to go across the lake to the school. | |

| The trip to the castle was quiet and Cassie played with her charm bracelet, fiddling with the different charms. | |

| During the trip up to the castle, Lyssa placed with her locket's chain, looking out of the carriage at all the surrounding area. Then she sighed and looked at her lap, wishing they weren't riding to school in silence for the first time ever. She wished she knew how to break the silence. | |

| Cassie sighed at the silence, she did not like it, not in the slightest. They got to the great hall and took their spots at Gryffindor table waiting for Professor McGonagall to come in with the first years and to do the sorting. | |

| As they sat there, they were still quiet. The silence was really starting to bug Lyssa, but she didn't really want to break it, because that would just make things somewhat awkward. Instead she kept her eyes trained on the doors, waiting for the first years. When they came in she then trained her eyes on the sorting ceremony, clapping as it was appropriate to clap. | |

| "Oh Hurry up," Cassie grumbled as the sorting went on and on. In her opinion the sorting took a frustrating long time to do and while it was special to the first years no-one in the other years really gave a crap. | |
