In A Fight With The World

Cassie sighed. "Well, I don't know. What I do know is that, we can't give up."

"Cassie, I've already given up. I gave up at your mum's house when I came up with the crazy scheme to get the muggle minister to help us. We both know that will never work out."

"You can't give up," Cassie said. "Because I don't want to see you back in Azkaban, do you think I would be bloody standing here right now if it didn't matter to me? No, I'd probably be restudying for my god damn stupid newts. You just- argh." Cassie turned to look at the road.

Lyssa closed her eyes against the tears that wanted to fall. "Cass," she said, voice wavering, "what's the point in trying? We can't win this time."

"Because..because I can't give up, it goes against everything that makes me me. I am not going to turn myself in because the odds aren't on our side. Are the ever fucking on our side?" Cassie brushed angrily at her eye.

"they never are," lyssa agreed. "but i'm done trying to make them that way. i'm sorry."

"Don't give up Lyss, please." Cassie's voice cracked on the last word, and she brushed at her eyes again, sniffing. "Don't," She shook her head biting on her hand trying to stop her crying. "Please. I need you, which is why I risked my god damn life to try and save yours. And I fucking never fucking learn." Cassie had broken down and had started to cry now, still facing the road. Wondering what on earth people would think if they drove past. "What the fuck did I fucking expect?" She muttered sourly under her breath. "For you to fucking change?" She pushed at her hair, only for it to flop back.

"I can't," Lyssa said, voice breaking for a second, "I can't not give up on fixing this disaster, it's too late for that, but I suppose, suppose that I could try to keep running. I'm just fucking tired of it." Tears were falling down her face now, and she wiped them away furiously.

"Do you want to go back to Azkaban? Do you want to live there for the rest of you god-damn fucking life?"

"If I did go back there I wouldn't be there for very long," Lyssa said, wishing she hadn't as soon as the words had left her mouth.

Cassie's eyes darkened. "You are one of the most selfish fucking people I have ever had the disfortune to fucking meet. I gave up what little fucking future I had with mylife to give you a chance to live that little bit that you could. So you could be free." Cassie ran a hand through her hair, looked at the road than the road sign and started to walk. "I don't know why I fricken care." She raised her voice somewhat. "I am going to London, even if I have no fuck clue why."

"Cassie," Lyssa said looking up at her, tears still streaming down her face, "how can you call this being free and living? We're running from the goddamn government. We can't see our families. This isn't being free."

"Well your not fucking behind bars are you? I'd call that free." She continued walking.

Lyssa was quiet, just watching Cassie walk away as she continued to sit next to the tree.

Cassie scowled kicking at things while she walked.

Lyssa just sat there, not even moving until Cassie was well out of sight. It was then that Lyssa realized she was being stupid and a rather poor excuse for a Gryffindor. Sighing, she stood up and set out to follow Cassie, hoping she could catch up to her soon.

After a few cars drove past Cassie decided that going cat would be safer.

Lyssa shifted over to being a fox before she set out since a) it would be faster and b) she was less likely to be noticed that way.

Cassie continued walking, as running would eat up her energy.

Lyssa went along at a fairly fast pace, because she had a lot of ground to cover to reach Cassie. In the distance she noticed a moving....something. The sun was going down and she could only see a vague shape at the distance. "Cassie?" Lyssa called toward the moving thing.

Cassie heard Lyssa's voice, she stopped for a moment, glancing back and seeing a faint outline of her. She turned back around, continueing to walk.

Lyssa stopped for a moment, staring when Cassie just kept going. Then she picked up her pace. "Cass, c'mon," she called. "Wait up."

"Why?" Cassie asked but she stopped walking.

"Because I'm sorry?" Lyssa offered. "Because I'm stupid? Because you deserve a better friend?"

"Saying your sorry doesn't change a thing. I have lost count of the times you've said that, it doesn't make much of a difference."
