In A Fight With The World

"And the other two?" Lyssa said, suddenly feeling slightly unsteady on her feet.

Cassie shrugged sullenly.

Lyssa was quiet, just looking at Cassie, unable to think of anything to say.

Cassie sighed.

Lyssa sat on the ground with a sigh herself. "Suppose I should let you on your way then..." she muttered, not looking at Cassie anymore.

Cassie wavered for a moment, opening her mouth to say something, she shut it. Continueing to walk, unsure if it really was the best thing to do.

Lyssa kept looking down until she heard grass rustling. Then she looked up to see Cassie walking away. She felt her chest tighten for a short moment and wondered if that meant they weren't friends anymore or what.

Cassie bit down on her lip, trying to stop herself from crying. She loved Lyss she really did, and wanted to be with, but she was sick of trying to help, and being there, when in the end it all seemed to crash and burn on herself. She just, just wanted to stop getting hurt. Because while she was strong, there was only so much she could take, and only so much emotional pain that she could live with.

Eventually, Lyssa forced herself to stand up again, feeling drained and tired. Then she started to walk in the direction of London, moving at a snail's pace or something akin to one.

Cassie who liked to run when she was in a somewhat angry mood sprinted for a while. But that soon drained her energy.

Lyssa just kept walking until eventually she just sort of fell over on where she was standing too tired to go on for the moment.

The next day or so, Cassie got to London. Tired, she sat down on the sidewalk. Not caring if she was quite seeable.

When Lyssa finally reached London she was cold and tired and hungry like mad. And she still had to walk through the massive city to get south of it her house.

While paths were not the most comfortable thing Cassie feel asleep, she was tired enough that she slept through all the noise. Cassie usaully had problems sleeping with noise, especially as a cat, as her ears were sharper. Keeping her eyes shut, she put her ears up listening for noises. She heard passing conversations as people walked past. Someone talking angrily to someone. A kid crying because his feet hurt. "Hey mum, look, there's a cat." Cassie opened her eyes. Seeing a teenage girl, some years younger than her a few feet in front. "Hey," The girl said walking slowly over as to not startle her. Cassie still somewhat tired just stared at her, getting ready to make a quick get a way. Cassie felt rather indignent at being patted, but she stopped herself from hissing. "Can we keep it mum? She doesn't have a collar or anything." "I don't know sweetie, it might belong to someone." Cassie felt indignent at being called it, she wasn't an it. "What's it doing in the street than hey?" The girl patted Cassie again. "I don't know Ray, maybe she got lost?" "Well than we should look after her," the girl said standing up and picking Cassie up. She nearly jumped out, but saw it as an oppurtunity to be looked after. "We could put signs up seeing if anyone has lost her or anything, but she doesn't look like a cat that's been owned. She looks really tired." "Okay Rachel, I suppose you can."

Lyssa was about halfway through London, just about ready to collapse where she stood when a set of tires pulled up next to where she stood. She looked up warily, wondering if she should run away, but too tired to do so. The girl on the bike put down the kickstand and got off, moving to crouch next to Lyssa. "Hey there," she said to Lyssa, voice soft and gentle. "You look tired and lost." Slowly, the girl reached out a hand as if to pet Lyssa, but not sure if the fox would bite. Sensing the hesitancy, Lyss moved just a little closer, suddenly just glad not to be alone at the moment. The pet Lyssa between the ears, and while normally Lyssa would snap if that happened she didn't find herself caring. Too tired, she supposed. "What's a little fox like you doing out in the city?" the girl asked, still petting Lyssa. "It's not exactly safe." Lyss whined a little bit, and the girl frowned, picking her up and placing her in a carrier on her bike. "Can't let you just walk around and get hurt," was the excuse. "And you look hungry and dirty anyway," she continued, settling the bike to keep riding while making sure Lyssa didn't fall out of the carrier. Normally, Lyssa would have jumped away, but right now she just didn't care.

Rachel held Cassie in her arms, Cassie did not like being picked up, it felt so weird. Though was nice as she didn't need to walk anymore. Rachel and her mum talked for a bit, Rachel saying that she just wanted to go home but her mum going that she needed to go shopping for a while longer. "Mum," Rachel complained as they walked. "I wanna get her home." Her mum sighed. "Fine. What are you going to name her anyway." "I dunno, I'll think about it."

The girl rode for a little while, the rocking motion of the basket making Lyssa sleepy. She curled up inside and closed her eyes, swiftly opening them and sticking her head out when the bike bumped to a stop. She looked up at the girl sleepily as she was lifted up from the basket and carried to a door, where she was put down so the girl could unlocked and open the door. Then they both walked inside, although Lyssa was hesitant. The girl walked over to her computer and tapped it to wake it up. "Now to figure out how to take care of you," she said to Lyssa as she typed something.

Rachel and her Mum got home sometime later, after stopping to get cat food and other things for Cassie. Ray still holding onto Cassie. THey got inside and Ray went up to her room, Cassie could hear the souds of younger children somewhere in the house, and frowned. Cats and small children did not mix well. Ray shut her bedroom door, and put Cassie down on her bed. Cassie curled up, staring intently at Ray as she sat down on her chair. "Hmm names," She thought looking at Cassie.

Lyssa jumped up on a couch pillow and curled up, watching the girl as she clicked through websites. Then finally, she turned to Lyssa. "They all say to keep you outside," she said, "but I don't really want to do that, so you'll have to make due indoors." Lyssa titled her head sideways, not caring where she stayed so long as she got food soon. "You hungry?" the girl said, getting up from her chair and walking to the kitchen, Lyssa followed. She watched as the girl dug around in some cabinets before putting something in a bowl. Lyssa inwardly frowned. Bowls were not acceptable, but she supposed as a four-legged animal she would be dealing with it. As soon as it touched the ground she went over and sniffed it.

"Hmm," Ray said thinking and looking at the cat sitting on her bed. "What do you think?" I like the name Cassie myself, Cassie thought. "Pity I can't speak cat, ey?" Cassie continued to stare at her. "Lesley," Ray said with a slight nod. "Okay?" Cassie meowed. Thinking it was an odd name.

While Lyssa was eating the food in the bowl, finding it weird to eat as a fox having never done so before, the girl sat in a chair. "I need something to call you," she muttered. "Because you isn't really a name." Lyssa looked up at her, having eaten everything. The girl frowned slightly, observing Lyssa. "I'll think about it while I give you a bath. You're covered in dirt and stuff." She picked Lyssa up and toted her to the bathroom, putting her in the tub. All the while, Lyssa tried to get away.

"Rachel!" A voice called up the stairs. "Coming!" Rachel shouted back down. She looked at Lesley. "Come on, your coming with me." She walked over to pick h up but Cassie jumped off the bed and walked towards the door. Showing Ray that she was pefectly fine at walking. Ray smiled, opening the door. She walked through after Cassie did. Cassie bounded down the stairs, she was used to stairs, having gone around them at Hogwarts a bit. "Yeesh cat, don't go too far." Cassie waited at the bottom. Ray walked into the kitchen, Cassie following her feeling somewhat like a dog. "Take all that stuff to your room," Ray's mum said pointing to a thing of cat bits and bobs and than get her something to eat." "Kitteh," A small voice said. Cassie's eyes darted about seeing a small girl, who looked about three totter over. Cassie meowed and jumped up onto the bench away from her. "KItteh?" The small girl said, scrunching her face up and starting to cry.

The girl turned on the water in the tub, setting it to a warm temperature, while Lyssa scurried as far from the faucet that she could. The water touched her paws anyway and she yelped in surprise. The girl reached out for her, but Lyssa shrunk back, which made the girl frown. "C'mon," she coaxed, "it's just a little soap and water." Lyssa whined for a moment, before slinking forward. The girl used a cup that Lyssa supposed was meant for rinsing after brushing your teeth to wet Lyssa's fur down and then started to rub in some soap. It smelled like oranges. Lyssa squirmed a little as she felt the dirt on her skin and fur come loose; it felt really freaking weird and somewhat gross. And then the girl was rinsing her off. Lyssa shook for a second, which made water go flying. The girl laughed as she reached for a towel. Turning off the water, she wrapped the towel around Lyssa and picked her up. She carried Lyssa to her room where she hooked up the hairdryer and unwrapped the towel. Lyssa stood on it and allowed herself to be blown dry. It felt nice anyhow. As she did this the girl spoke. "I think I'll call you Savannah," she said. "And I'm Emily."

"Rachel, get the cat off of the bench, and she's covered in dirt. You'll need to wash her." Rachel's mum said as she bustled around the kitchen. "For goodness sake let your sister hold her. And where the hell is your brother?" Rachel walked over to Cassie, going to pick her up, Cassie jumped away from her. She wasn't going anywhere near that three year old. "On the x-box?" Ray suggested. "No, your older one." "How am I supposed to know?" Ray asked. "Lesley, Lesley, here Lesley." Cassie meowed indignently at her.

Lyssa tilted her head at Emily, puzzling over the name. So long as she remembered it, she supposed she could answer to it. She got off the towel once she was dry, and looked up at Emily, feeling much better than she had now that she was clean and fed. Now for a nap. Lyssa faked a yawn, looking at Emily expectantly. The girl sighed and looked around. "I don't know where you'd sleep," she muttered. Then she opened up her closet, which had a clean floor, pulling a cover from a shelf above her clothes as she did. She bundled the cover on the closet floor and pointed. "You can sleep there for now." Lyssa trotted over and sniffed the blanket. It smelled like outside. She hopped up on the blanket and curled up, ready to nap the day away.
