In A Fight With The World

Lyssa's ear had perked up from the sound of the knock on the door and she was already on her feet when Cassie gave her the look. Lyssa trotted her way to Cassie's room and located a gap to the closet door. She slunk inside the gap without disturbing the door and hid amongst some extra bed covers.

"Can we come in?" One of the ministry people asked. "Okay.." Cassie said looking at them warily. She didn't want Aurors in her house. She stepped back holding open the door.

Lyssa, with her acute fox hearing, could hear what was going on at the door, and she buried herself deeper at the sounds of people coming in the house.

Cassie sat down on the kitchen stool, gesturing with her hand for the Aurors to sit on the couch. Which was probably somewhat wet from Lyssa bounded around the house. Cassie looked expectantly at the Aurors. Wondering how this was going to go. "Miss Evans-" "Yes?" The Auror gave her an irritated look for interupting him. Cassie decided if there was order people in her house she was going to enjoy it how she could. "Have you seen the morning paper yet today?" Cassie nodded. "Yes I did."

"Did you happen to notice what was on the front page of the paper this morning?" Lyssa heard the person continue. She was on the front page? Inside her little hideaway she titled her head to the side, pondering that over for a second.

"No I didn't I randomly decided to skip the front page," Cassie said with an eyeroll. "What do you think?" The person gave her an irritated look. "In this case you would have seen Miss Malfoy on the cover." "Yes I did." She sighed. "I hope she's alright."

"So you do not know her current whereabouts?" Lyssa rolled her eyes, hearing that. Of course Cassie didn't know. She hadn't seen Lyssa crawl into the bed cover pile. Silly Ministry guy.

"No," Cassie said giving the ministry person an odd look. "Why would I know where she is?" "Because if she made it across she would have come to find you and-" "I moved recently, she didn't know where I lived."

"I see," the guy muttered. "Do you think she would make her way to your former residence in search of you?"

"Maybe," Cassie said with a shrug. "Did you know that Miss Malfoy in an animargus?" "She's a what now?" Cassie asked, feigning confusion. "She can turn into an animal. In her case. A fox." "Ooh, that's cool, imagine turning into an animal. That would be a lot of fun. Hmmmm." "Miss Evans," The auror said finding her sidetrackedness annoying. "What? Oh sorry. No."

"You did not know your friend could turn into a fox at will?"

"No, bugger her," Cassie pouted and crossed her arms over her chest. "Think she could have told me. Jeez."

"So the conversation the two of you had during your last visit is of no relevance? As I recall you spoke with her about swimming foxes, only to have Miss Malfoy, three days later, break out as a fox."

"Huh," Cassie said with an amused smile. "That is kind of weird isn't it? Maybe she thought I was trying to tell her something when I was just talking about the lake down the road where I swear I saw a swimming fox."

"Interesting..." the ministry guy said. Lyssa shifted a little in her hiding space, as getting smushed by a cover did not feel nice when you were small. Couldn't they hurry things up any faster?

"Do you mind us looking around to make sure?" The ministry person asked. "I-uh." Cassie said trying to think, if she let them they would most probably find Lyssa but if she didn't then they would know she had something to hide. The ministry guy raised an eyebrow at her hesitence. "Thought so," He murmered. "Miss Evans, you are hereby arrested for helping a criminal escape prison. Steven, search the place." The ministry person now had his wand pointed at Cassie. Who's mind had gone fuzzy.

Lyssa's ears shot up as much as they could and she stuck her head out from the covers. No point in hiding now. She heard someone, Steven she presumed, step into the room and start walking around. The other room, however, had suddenly gone quiet and she wondered what was going on in there.

Cassie knew she had to do something but she couldn't think, the fact that she was a criminal now startled her. "Miss Evans," The Auror said, Cassie couldn't take her eyes off of the wand pointing at her. She'd had wands pointed at her before, and spells fired at her. But it was different when it wasn't school, or Death Eaters, when it was Aurors. And she was supposedly meant to be on the same side. "Surrender your wand." The word surrender brough Cassie back to her senses. To hell with surrendering. She did not spend the last however long of her life fighting and doing exactly the oposite of what people said to stop now. "You know," Cassie said slowly, not taking her eyes off of the wand. "You people need to learn to do your job correctly, and stop putting the wrong people behind bars." And before the Auror could do anything she turned into a cat, and bounded up onto a ledge and out the open window. Which Cassie had opened just in case.

Lyssa slunk her way out of the closet, peeking around the door to make sure the person in the room wasn't looking her way. Then she slipped into the room where Cassie was, the other guy still looking bewildered at the window. Lyssa jumped to it, yapped at him, and jumped out, looking for Cassie.

Cassie spotted Lyssa, and meowed at her, before jumping and scrambling up the fence to go into the person next doors yard. She hoped that the ministry people were too startled to do anything and give them time to get away. But she knew they would act pretty quickly.

Lyssa followed after Cassie, assuming the other girl knew the area better than she did. Behind her she heard shouting at the ministry guys finally shook out of their stupor and were trying to get organized to find them.

The next however long Cassie spent going through people's gardens. She climbed up onto a fence, finding herself facing a road. She looked at the street sign wondering how far from home she was. Hopefully a fair distance.

Lyssa followed behind Cassie, but soon started to slow. She yapped to get Cassie's attention to show that she was tired, too tired to run if they ran into trouble.

Cassie meowed at Lyssa, jumping back down into the garden.

Lyssa whined a little and just fell down to where she was laying on the ground. Cassie hadn't been the one to walk miles and miles or to swim across miles of open water.
