In A Fight With The World

"Did they stick a collar on you?"

Cassie nodded. "I managed to get it caught of a nail and pull it off though,"

"Lucky you, then," Lyssa commented, thinking back to the pink one she'd had.

"Hmmm," Cassie said.

It was about a week later, since Cass and Lyss had been let into the room when there was a knock and the door opened to reveal Shawn. "I have news about your predicament," he told the two, walking in and shutting the door behind him. "What news?" Lyssa asked his warily. "Well, I've spoken with the minister and he has agreed with the clearing of Miss Evans, but I am still working for your case Miss Malfoy."

Cassie looked up when Shawn came in, she was anxious and nervous and wanted to get out of the bloody room. She could not stand being stuck in one place, especially with the door just a few feet away and able to open. She watched Shawn as he spoke, and smiled softly as she was cleared. Her smile wavered on the edge of a frown as Lyssa was not yet cleared, but, she had her hopes that she could be soon. "Thank-you," Cassie said to Shawn.

Lyssa looked down with a frown and sat on the bed. She had sort of expected this to happen. Her record was way more blemished than Cassie's was, but that didn't mean she wasn't upset by it.

Shawn nodded walking out of the room. Cassie looked over at Lyssa with a slight sigh. "It'll work out," She said. It was somewhat odd, but Cassie had to admit that not all ministry people were complete idiots. Amazing right?

"Thanks for the optimism, Cassie," Lyssa said with a sigh, closing her eyes. "Suppose this means you can leave now, go tell your mum, get back to life." She shrugged slightly, biting the inside of her lip.

"Contrary to what you may think, I am not going to just walk out leaving you here on your own. I really should write to my mother or something though, because she is probably going utterly balistic."

Lyssa frowned. "Cassie, go home," she said. "It would be better for you if you did. Get back to studying and hang out with your family. It'd be better if you did. No need to hang around here."

Cassie shrugged. "I don't wanna just leave you here on your own Lyss."

"Cass, I want you to leave," Lyssa said. "I appreciate you wanting to stay, but I WANT you to leave. And I know you want to leave, because I know you hate being cooped up places. So just go. I'll be fine on my own."

Cassie shook her head stubbornly.

"Cassie," Lyssa said with a sigh, "get the fuck out now. Or I will open that door and push you out myself, which would only succeed to getting me in more trouble."

Cassie stood up, her eyes darkening. "I don't want to fricken go, and I don't give a fricken damn if you want me to. You know, maybe I want to do something for my self for a change? Because despite howmuch you drive me mad sometimes, I can't live without you. Why else would I fricken go to Azkaban? I didn't want to get anynear the god damned place, but I had to. Not because of you, or the fact that you were lonely, or any other shit but because I needed you. I still do."

"Cassie, you're making this harder than it has to be. Just go and start learning to deal with me not being there, because there is still a chance that I might not be."

"But I don't want to," Cassie said shaking her head. "Im not giving up on you just because you've given up on yourself."

"I haven't given up on it! I'm just trying to keep you from getting hurt again because of me!" Lyssa cried, wanting very much to cry from frustration. "We don't know that I'll get off and if I don't you bloody well know they aren't going to let you come see me again. Not after this time."

"Lyssa," Cassie said. "It's too late to stop me getting hurt, I'm Cassie Evans, I just about attract that kind of crap, and besides." Cassie headed in the direction of the door, pulling it open. "Saying you don't want me here, hurt me a whole lot more than you getting chucked in Azkaban ever did."

"Great, even when I try to stop from hurting you I still manage to do it," Lyssa said, dropping her face into her hands.

Cassie pulled the door shut with a slam.

Lyssa lifted her head and stared at the door for a moment.

Cassie frowned, walking through the halls.

Lyssa fell back on the bed, covering her face with her hands again.
